Karen Herman, an artist who is active with MSPCA
and who has done Wet Paint many times for Essex
Art Center, is the Chairwoman for the Andover
Preservation Commission, is a former President of
the Andover Historical Society, and is on the Boards
of the Lawrence History Center and Andover’s
Memorial Hall Library.
Professor Jim Coates’ work revolves around his
interest in shelter forms – primitive, modern and
contemporary – and their relationship to the natural
environment. He is a sculptor on the faculty at
UMass Lowell and is a Lifetime Fellow of the New
Hampshire State Council on the Arts.
THEME | PASSAGES
We chose the theme PASSAGES as it metaphorically
refers to the multiplicity of journeys made through
many dimensions within the 50-acre site. We are
looking for a variety of work and for creative
interpretations which arise from the time you spend
anywhere in this space.
Our site is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places and is home to a wide variety of flora and
fauna, and has a triumphal entry arch, woodland
paths, cobblestone walkways, a stone bridge, a
natural reflecting lily pond, a wild rose meadow, and
an English-style stone chapel built in 1909 with
Tiffany stained glass windows.
No rubbings may be done, and no names from
stones or monuments in the site are to appear in
artwork or in artist statements about the work.

beginning your work. Artists are encouraged to take
a Walking Tour of the grounds and may visit the site
multiple times. Opening hours are dawn to dusk.
ENTRY PROCEDURE
Artists may enter up to THREE pieces for a $30 entry
fee which is not refundable. All work must be for
sale. WPGC and AHS receive 1/3 of the sale price and
reserve the right to photograph your work and use
your entry .jpgs for publicity purposes.
Please send your contact details, an artist statement
and 3 .jpgs of each entry to drruth2011 at gmail.com
on or before Friday, September 18, 2015. The three
jpgs are: (1) the whole work, (2) a close-up, and (3)
your starting point within the cemetery. Complete
the entry form(s) in this flyer and submit them with
your payment to be received by Ruth Naylor, c/o
WPGC on or before September 15, 2015. Make
