Bishop Jones Selects New Provost for
The Jurisdiction of the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy
Montevallo, Al-March 27th, 2015. The Rt. Rev. Derek LS Jones announced today the
appointment of Chaplain, Commander Robbie “Hal” Scott, Jr., USN as the new Provost for the
Special Jurisdiction of the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy. Effective April 1, 2015, Dean Scott
replaces outgoing Provost, The Very Reverend Harry Mathis.
The Provost serves JAFC as the chief personnel overseer with a staff of six associate deans and
has responsibilities for the well being of chaplains and their families, as well as the first level of
accountability for all matters regarding the maintenance of endorsement through Good Standing.
“Dean Scott has been an integral part of our pastoral care program since its inception three years
ago. Hal’s leadership skills and his dedication to serve our Lord is both admired and well-suited
to the Provost Office…He’s just the right one to be selected for this role!” said the Venerable
Canon Michael Williams, Vicar General.
Dean Mathis retires from chaplaincy and fully assumes the position of Senior Rector at Christ
Our Hope Anglican Church in Dayton, Ohio.
