marks on fabric. I prefer to slightly clip the seam
allowance where possible to show the placement of
a mark. My second preference is to mark the location
with a water-soluble marker. Third, I use tailor’s tacks—
with a needle and thread, stitch a loose stitch for
each mark. Leave a long tail of thread so thread mark
can be removed when project is completed. Other
methods include chalk, pencils, tracing wheels or pins.
T o p - St i t c h - A stitched line that
runs parallel to a fold or seam.
Top-stitching is decorative, but it
also helps hold layers of a project
together. Sometimes a double
needle is used and/or thicker thread.
W h i p - St i t c h - Join two pieces by
stitching from one to the other with
the needle perpendicular to edges
being joined.
