PRE-RACE INFORMATION
TRIATHLON AUSTRALIA MEMBERSHIP
REQUIREMENTS
Have you organised your Triathlon Australia
membership?
Every entrant is required to hold a valid membership
to Triathlon Australia or any other National Triathlon
Federation in order to participate in the 2015 Gold
Coast Triathlon. You will be required to show proof
of your membership at race registration so please
ensure that you take any appropriate action before
race registration.
•Annual members – If you hold a valid annual
membership to Triathlon Australia for the 201415 season then please bring your membership
ID card (or printed/electronic confirmation email
if your card has not yet arrived) and photo ID to
show at race registration.
•One Day members (ODM) - If you have purchased
a One Day membership to Triathlon Australia
through the online registration process, there is
no need to bring anything. If you did not book your
ODM through the registration process, but need
to, please call the IRONMAN office on 1300 761
384. A ODM for the Sprint distance costs $10.00
and the Enticer and Superkidz ODM costs $5.00.
•International competitors - If you are a member of
different National Triathlon Federation recognised
by the ITU then you are NOT required to be a
member of Triathlon Australia. However you
MUST bring proof of your membership to check
in. If you cannot prove your membership then
you will be required to purchase a membership to
Triathlon Australia at race registration.
•
Team Competitors – Team competitors are
required to hold one ODM per entry. If all 3 team
members hold a TA Annual membership, a ODM is
not required.

TRIATHLON CHECK-IN
Location: Broadwater Parklands, Gold Coast
Highway, Southport.
Check-In Opening Times
Saturday 11th April 10.00am to 5.00pm
If you do not Check-In during the designated CheckIn times you will not be able to race, we cannot be
responsible for late arrivals so allow for mishaps
when making travel arrangements. There will be no
check-in on race morning.
You MUST show the following items to check-In:
• Current Triathlon Australia Membership
•
Photo identification to Check-In – i.e. Drivers
Licence, Passport etc.
YOU must pick up your race kit at Check-In; no one
else will be allowed to pick it up for you.
Bikes will NOT BE ALLOWED in Check-In.
Your race kit will contain:
• Race Number (to be worn on the Run ONLY)
• Bike and Helmet Number Stickers
•ID Wristband (Teams will receive 3 wristbands – 1
for each team member)
• Swim Cap
• Timing Chip
• Event Bag
• Number tattoo (to be worn on right bicep)
*Superkidz will only receive bib, bike sticker, timing
chip and swim cap.

PRE-RACE INFORMATION
INDIVIDUAL & TEAM CHANGES
Please see check in help desk if you have any
Individual and team changes. It’s your responsibility
to ensure your information is correct. (These changes
include category, team members, swap of legs, etc).
Please note it is illegal for someone else to compete
under your name or for you to compete under
someone else’s name, this will result in suspension
from your State Triathlon Association and banning of
both parties from all future associated races.
ATHLETE ID WRISTBAND
You will need to secure your ID wristband to your wrist
prior to leaving the Check-In area on Saturday. This
band will identify you as an official race competitor
and must be worn at all times. The wristband is your
means of access into transition over the weekend.
You will not be allowed to remove your bike and/or
gear from the transition area without your wristband
secured to your wrist.
If you present a broken wristband to the Help Desk
you will need to show Photo ID in order to collect a
new wristband. This is to ensure the safety of your
belongings & to ensure we know who is on course at
all times for safety and medical reasons.

TIMING
•Your timing chip will be included in your race kit
that you will receive at Check-In.
• Timing Chips must be worn on the LEFT ankle.
•On race morning you must wear your timing chip
to enter transition. Volunteers will be checking
this.
•Please remember that we are recording your time

through each chute so come through in an orderly
fashion.
•At the Swim Start, you must activate your timing
chip by passing through the timing gate, before
entering the water.
•If you do not start the race or pull out of the race
for any reason you must return the timing chip
to the Drop Out Clerk located at the Broadwater
Parkland Information Booth, or return it to a race
official. If your timing chip is not returned or is lost
you will be charged $150 for a replacement.
•Timing results will include swim split, bike split,
run split and finish time – overall and category
results.
Important timing info for teams – the swimmer, cyclist
and runner must wear the timing chip. The swimmer
must transfer the chip to the cyclist and the cyclist must
transfer the chip to the runner at the cyclist’s bike within
transition. The runner then wears it from the time they
leave transition until they cross the finish line.
NO TIMING CHIP = NO TIME
BIKE CHECK IN
Compulsory bike Check In is between 10.00am and
5.00pm on Saturday 11th April. Transition is located
in Broadwater Parklands, Gold Coast Highway,
Southport. You must Check In prior to checking your
bike into transition.
There is no late bike racking available for this event.
You must rack your bike on Saturday 11th April prior
to 5pm.
Your bike must display your seat post sticker, and you
must be wearing your corresponding numbered ID
wristband. If you do not have either of these you will
not be allowed in transition.
Your bike will be visually inspected by a Triathlon
Australia official and no bike will be accepted unless
it passes the inspection. This is an extra service
for competitors and is NOT a guarantee of safety.
Competitors are responsible for their bikes being in
safe working order. You should ensure your bike, as

well as your helmet, is in safe working order before presenting it at bike Check In to avoid rejection. TA Officials
will be checking for such things as:
• End plugs on handle bars
• Stripped cable
• Brakes in working order
•
Tyres in reasonable condition
•
At least one water bottle cage
•Compliance with Triathlon Australia Race Competition
Rules
Cycle Zone Mooloolaba are the Official Bike Mechanics of the Gold Coast Triathlon. Cycle Zone
mechanics will be on hand at the Gold Coast Sport & Lifestyle Expo on Saturday from 9:00am –
5:00pm to assist with any mechanical needs prior to racking your bike. Mechanics will also be available
on Sunday 12th April inside transition entry to assist with any last minute minor bike problems. If

TRANSITION – RACE MORNING
COMPETITOR RACE NUMBER
The Transition area will be open from 5.15am –
6.30am on Sunday morning. All individual competitors
must be out of transition by 6.30am.
Wearing your race number is COMPULSORY for the
RUN leg. Your number must be clearly visible. You
must not fold, cut or manipulate your race number
in any way. Team runners are only required to wear
the race number; the cyclist must ensure the bike and
helmet stickers are displayed during the race.
ONLY COMPETITORS ARE ALLOWED IN TRANSITION.
Helmets will be checked Sunday morning on entry
to the transition area by Triathlon Australia officials.
Ensure you have your Helmet Sticker (received at
Check In in your kit) on your helmet.
It takes around 15 minutes to walk to the swim start
from transition so ensure you leave plenty of time to
arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your swim start.
TEAMS CHANGE OVER POINT
The team cyclist must remain in their position in
transition with their bike racked until the swimmer
has tagged the cyclist at the cyclist’s bike and the
cyclist has the timing chip secure around their LEFT
ankle.
Once returned to transition the team cyclist must
rack their bike before the runner can leave on the run
leg. Team runners must wait in the team cyclist’s bike
rack position. Remember to take the timing band off
the cyclist and secure it to your ankle before exiting
transition.
GEAR TENT
The Gear Tent will be located at the Check-In tent
on Sunday. Please use this facility and only keep
necessary equipment in the transition areas. Please
make sure your gear is clearly identified with the
gear tag provided in your race kit. It is also advisable
to place some form of identification on all your
personal property, this enables easy identification if
it is misplaced and returned to officials. Please note
that no responsibility or liability of your belongings is
taken by IRONMAN.
There will also be a separate section in the gear tent
for all large pumps. You will not be allowed to attach
your pump to your bag or have it protruding from
your bag when you take it to the gear tent. You will
need to tag it separately with the sticker provided in
your race kit.
AID STATION/HYDRATION
There will be 2 aid stations on the run course, one
opposite Railway Street and the other in Broadwater
Parklands car park. The Aid Stations will have water
and Etixx Sports Nutrition Electrolytes available.

CUT OFF TIMES
* Cut off times subject to change.
All competitors must be finished by 10.30am.
Swim – Athletes must complete the swim by 9.15am,
any remaining team cyclists in transition will
be sent out onto the bike course at this time.
All swimmers will receive a finish time.
Bike – All cyclists must complete this leg by 9.45am.
Any cyclists unable to reach this cut off will be
collected by event SAG wagons. Any remaining
team runners in transition will be sent out
onto the run course at this time.
Run – All runners are required to be off the course by
10.15am.
Every endeavour will be made to allow you to run to
the finish line however you may be asked to move
onto the footpath in order to allow the scheduled
reopening of roads. If you believe these cut off times
may be a problem, please call our Noosa office on
1300 761 384 to discuss.
IMPORTANT TEAMS INFO
All team members must have their ID wristband
on to access the transition area, where the team
changeover will happen.
RECOVERY AREA
As you cross the finish line you will be directed
through to the recovery area, volunteers will be on
hand to take off your timing chip (any unreturned
timing chips will be charged at $150 per chip).
There will be medical personnel available if you require
treatment otherwise you will be able to proceed to
the recovery area where there will be water, Etixx
Sports Nutrition Electrolyte and fruit available.

MASSAGE AREA
RESULTS
Trained massage therapists and practitioners from
the Sports Chiropractic Association will be on hand
to provide a brief free of charge massage treatment
for you on Sunday after you race. This service will
be available from 7:30am – 11:00am inside the
Recovery Area.
Provisional Results will be available online via –

Pre Event massage will also be available at the Gold
Coast Sport and Lifestyle Expo on Saturday.
BIKE CHECK OUT
The transition area will be reopened again after the
last competitor exits for their run leg. Please make
sure you have your ID wristband on to verify your race
number to your bike number.
Transition will be unsecure from 11:00am. Any bikes
left in transition after this time is at your own risk.
PRESENTATION CEREMONY
The Presentation Ceremony will be held at
approximately 10.00am at the Gold Coast Sport and
Lifestyle Expo.
There will be medallions awarded to 1st – 3rd in each
individual and team group category.

If you are a place-getter in your category and are
unable to stay for presentations, you will need to
contact the IRONMAN office within 60 days of the
event to arrange collection of your medal. You will
be able to collect your prize from the IRONMAN office
or alternatively have your medal posted to you at a
surcharge. Random draw prizes will be presented
at the Presentation Ceremony. To be eligible be sure
to place your race number tare off in the prize draw
barrel on the stage area. Please remember to bring
your race number to presentations to enter the draw
– YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN.
RACE PHOTOS
Official photographer FinisherPix will be at the
finish line on race day. Photos will be available from
www.finisherpix.com to view and order any shots of
yourself, friends or family.
Be sure to have your race/bib number visible and
displayed on your front at all time and don’t forget to
smile when you cross the finish line.
JUNIOR ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT BURSARY
JAD Bursary awards one male and one female elite
triathlete that is registered with Triathlon Australia,
is aged 23 years or younger and ranked outside the
top 25. The memorial bursary has been set up in an
endeavour to return to the sport some of the pleasure
and fulfilment triathlon gave to Luke.
A points system taken from the Noosa Triathlon,
Mooloolaba Triathlon and Gold Coast Triathlon – Luke
Harrop Memorial will be allocated for an overall male
and female winner for the Luke Harrop Memorial
Bursary who will each receive an additional $3,000
(GST inc.) presented at the Gold Coast Triathlon –
Luke Harrop Memorial. See www.goldcoasttri.com

LOST PROPERTY
Any lost property that is handed in will be taken to the
Information Booth. Please note that no responsibility
or liability is taken by the Race Organisers for lost
property. For any enquiries after the event please

SWIM COURSE

COURSE SUMMARY
Swim Rules
The Gold Coast Triathlon Swim course consists of a Superkidz
course of 100m, an Enticer Course of 300m and a Sprint course
of 750m. The swim start areas are south of the Check-In area
towards Queen St. Please allow 15 minutes to walk to the start. It
will be a beach start. Competitors are to keep the swim start area
clear. Swim warm-up, if required, must take place to the right of
the swim course.
•All competitors must wear the swim
cap that has been provided in your
race kit.
•
Any other swim equipment is
prohibited, including iPods/MP3
players.
•
All competitors must pass through
the swim entry chute to active their
timing chip. Failure to do this may
affect your race time.
•Do not discard your swim cap on the
course. This is considered littering
and will result in a time penalty or
disqualification. It should be placed it
in transition with your gear.
•Competitors must not use gloves or
socks (including but not limited to
compression socks)
All competitors must be at the swim marshalling area 15 minutes
prior to their wave start. Competitors must pass through the
entry chute to activate their timing chip. You must follow the
swim buoys precisely. Any short cuts will result in disqualification.

Wetsuits
•For all Open & Age Group competitors

Celsius. The wetsuit thickness must
not exceed 5mm.

COURSE SUMMARY
Bike Rules
The 10km bike lap (Sprint course is 20km) is an out and back
circuit along the Gold Coast Highway. It is a very slick, fast and flat
course. The course may be influenced by wind. It is a 5km loop to
the turnaround point and return to transition. Sprint category must
complete 2 laps of this course. Enticer category must complete 1
lap of this course and Superkidz category will complete a 1km out
and back loop within this course. Take caution as you approach
the transition area as it changes to single file.
•To ensure a fair race for all competitors
you must rack your bike in your correct
signed age group rack.
•
Your helmet must remain securely
fastened at all times while you are
on the bike course. This includes any
time you stop on the side of the road,
for example for mechanic repairs.
•
Competitors

on the left or cross centre lines.

BIKE COURSE
Drafting
NO DRAFTING – Technical officials will be on the
course and penalty boxes will be in use.
When passing a forward competitor or motorbike, the
rear competitor is allowed a maximum of 15 seconds
to pass through the 7m draft zone. Failure to observe
this may result in a drafting penalty. The yellow card
time penalty is 3 minutes.

Illegal Pass
A competitor passing on the inside (left hand side)
of another competitor will receive an Illegal Pass
penalty.
When passing a forward vehicle, the rear competitor
is allowed a maximum of 90 seconds to pass through
the draft zone. Failure to observe this may result in a
drafting penalty.
Once passed, a competitor must immediately
commence to drop back out of the draft zone of the
forward competitor before attempting to re-pass.

•Athletes may not run with a bare
torso or without shoes on any part
of the run course of an event.
•
A competitor must clearly display
the race number on their front
at all times on the run course.
Those not complying may incur
a Stop/Start penalty. However if
the Technical Official considers
that the identification number has
been unintentionally lost, then the
competitor will not be penalised.
•A competitor must not wear, use or
carry items deemed to be a hazard

GENERAL RACE RULES
These rules are applicable across the entire course.
Competitors must:
• practise good sports conduct at all times;
•be responsible for their own safety, the safety of
their own equipment and be considerate of the
safety of others;
•be responsible for understanding and following
the TA RCR;
• obey instructions from event officials;
•
obey traffic regulations unless otherwise
instructed by an event official;
•treat other competitors, officials, volunteers and
spectators with respect and courtesy;
• avoid the use of abusive language;
•
be responsible for keeping on the designated
course;
•not wear, use or carry items deemed to be a hazard
to self or others e.g. a hard cast, jewellery, glass/

devices such as, but not limited to, mobile phones,
mobile disc players, IPods, MP3 players or 2 way
communication devices;
•not use any equipment which may provide an
unfair competitive advantage;

•not obstruct or interfere with the forward progress
of another competitor, or jeopardise the safety
and welfare of another competitor or race official
or spectator or member of the public;
•not accept assistance from anyone other than an
event official;
•not discard any equipment on the course, except
at the approved dedicated locations;
•withdraw immediately from the event if deemed
and informed by the event medical personnel that
the competitor appears to present a danger to
the health or welfare of either the competitor or
others;
•not cause offence to others through deliberate
acts of nudity, or personal toilet which might be
seen in public;
•A competitor may wear a speed suit that meets
the following criteria at any time during an event.
An approved speed suit is defined as:
A speedsuit must be comprised of 100% textile
material such as nylon or lycra and must not
include rubberised material such as polyurethane or
neoprene. The speedsuit may contain a zipper.
MEDICAL INFORMATION
It is strongly advised that you take out personal
medical insurance for the duration of your stay,
especially international competitors. Under the
Australian Health act, non-Australians are not
covered financially for personal injury. If you do have
an accident you must pay for your own medical
expenses. Therefore it is essential for you to obtain
adequate personal medical insurance.
We advise Australian residents to notify Gold Coast
Triathlon of their Medicare number prior to the event
which can be updated through your registration

SPECTATOR INFO
Rules to remember for Cheer Squad, Family &
Friends
• DO NOT ride or run beside a competitor on any part
of the course as you will result in the competitor
being disqualified.
• DO NOT use permanent paint or crayon for graffiti
on any road. Chalk is acceptable but where paint is
identified to a competitor, that competitor will be
disqualified.
• DO make sure your competitor has read and
knows the Triathlon Rules pertaining to this race,
and has thoroughly read this booklet.
• DO make sure your competitor has all necessary
equipment on race morning including timing chip
and bib number.

An information booth will be located at Broadwater
Parklands in the expo area.
The Booth will have maps, competitor lists, event
timetable, transport info, wave starts and all other
information covering the event.
