DRAFT Longpoint 2015 Triathlon and Team Events DRAFT Purpose To encourage higher caliber demonstrations of skill and recognize when both individuals and groups perform well, Longpoint 2015 will distribute awards for both a Triathlon event and a Team event based on the same scoring scheme. The Longpoint Triathlon combines the outcomes of Open Steel Longsword, Cutting, and Paired Technique OR Ringen, which is specified at registration, into one event. The purpose of this event is to showcase the fighters who can perform well in multiple tournaments without necessarily winning each of the tournaments. A well rounded fighter should not only be able to succeed in the ring, but to also cut consistently, and demonstrate knowledge of the sources. Likewise, the Longpoint Team Competition will showcase high performing teams, clubs and schools by evaluating performance across all of the Longpoint 2015 open events. Scoring Points for placement are as follows. The number of placements an event is awarded out to is dependent on the size of the event. For instance, a 50+ person Open Longsword tournament awards down to 32nd place. An 8 person Ringen weight class awards only down to 4th place. 1st Place – 10 Points 2nd Place – 9 Points 3rd Place – 8 Points 4th Place – 7 Points 5th through 8th Place – 4 Points 9th through 16th Place – 2 Points 17th – 32nd Place – 1 Point Triathlon Event The Triathlon score will be tallied by combining the placement score from Open Steel Longsword, Cutting, and Paired Technique OR Ringen, which was chosen at registration. Placing anywhere within the range given for that event will award the fighter the appropriate score. The placement ranges will be released before the event when we have accurate counts for participation. For instance, placing 2nd in Longsword, 4th in Ringen, and 5th in Cutting will give you a Triathlon score of 20 Points. The fighter with the highest number of points will be named the Longpoint 2015 Triathlon winner. In the case of a tie within the top three spots, we will decide on a winner by comparing the scores of each fighter by individual events in the following order: Open Steel Longsword, Cutting, and Paired Technique OR Ringen. If two fighters are tied at 20, but had scores of 9 and 4 respectively in Longsword, the fighter with the score of 9 would be placed higher. A fighter must complete all three of the events to be included in the Triathlon running. If a fighter drops out of an event, is disqualified, or otherwise does not participate, the fighter cannot place in the Triathlon. Team Event The Longpoint 2015 Team Event scoring will be tallied by combining the scores, based on the scoring above, of up to the top 3 scoring people from each school. Each Team must consist of at least three people from the same school or club, but may have as many participants from the same school or club as attend the event. Only the top three performing people from each team will contribute towards the team score. In the case of a tie, a fourth person from each team will be included. There are no limits to the minimum or maximum number of events the team as a whole or any of their members may compete in. Invitational events do not count towards this score. These rules © 2015 J.
