GEOMETRY TOWN FINAL PROJECT
● Carefully read ALL requirements before beginning this project.
Rough Draft
● Before creating your final project, make a rough draft of your map.
Use the rough draft to sketch out where things will go on the larger,
final map.
● In your draft, plan the areas that need to be reserved for specific parts
of your town, including the park, legend and title.
THEME:
● Your Geometry Town should have a theme. All
roads, parks, buildings, etc. should relate to
this theme.
● For example, you can create a dog-themed
town in which the roads or buildings will be
named after different dog breeds.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Draw 3 parallel roads, and name them. The names should relate to the
theme of your town. You MUST use a ruler to draw the lines for your
roads. Also make sure that all roads are the same size/width. Your
roads will look neater if you erase any solid lines where 2 or more roads
meet. Make it look realistic. There are no lines where roads intersect.
2. Draw 2 roads that are each perpendicular to at least one of the 3
parallel lines, and name these roads.
3. Draw 2 intersecting roads on the map of your town. They may
intersect each other, or any of the other roads. These roads intersect,
but are not perpendicular. Name these roads.
4. In your town, create a park. The park must meet the following criteria:
a. The park is a square with an area of 25 square units.
b. Draw a rectangular swimming pool that has a perimeter of 6
units.
c. Draw a right scalene triangle for the picnic area.
d. BONUS: Within this square draw a round sandbox with a one unit
diameter.
e. BONUS: Draw a pond with a circumference of 6.28 units
5. Using the sample polygon shapes below, create 10 buildings for your
town. Each building’s name should relate to your theme. Try to include
a mathematical name as well. For example: Poodle Pentagon Parlor.
Feel free to include any other geometric shapes in addition to those
mentioned below.
TRIANGLE
SQUARE
RECTANGLE
TRAPEZOID
PENTAGON
HEXAGON
HEPTAGON
OCTAGON
NONAGON
RHOMBUS
6. You must include 5 other items. Some possibilities are: slide and swings
for the park, picnic tables in the picnic area of your park, extra roads,
people, trees/plants, cars and trucks on the highways, traffic signs, a
railroad, a bus station, a river, etc.
7. Use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to make your map colorful
and neat.
8. Give your town a name to creatively highlight your theme.
9. Include a map key or legend in the lower right hand corner of your map.
It should include symbols to stand for your roads, etc. Include a map
scale if you can.
