Many Faculty members make significant contributions to their national, regional, and state
professional organizations, as well as various community organizations. Here is just a small
sample of some of the contributions and offices held. This is by no means a complete or
exhaustive collection. I apologize to all of the fantastic faculty and outstanding organizations
that are not included here. Also note: some faculty photos were not available.
Donna Giuliani (Sociology) is Executive Officer of the Michigan
Sociological Association (http://www.michigansociology.org/), an
organization in which she has served the board over 10 years as
President, Vice-president, Secretary, Conference Coordinator. In 2011
the Donna received the Marvin Olsen Award for distinguished service
to Michigan Sociology.
Jessica Chemberlin (Sociology) serves on the Michigan Sociological Association board. (not

Laura Dull (History) is the Community College Liaison for the
Community College Humanities Association (http://www.cchaassoc.org/).
Amy French (History) is the Treasurer for the Castle Museum of
Saginaw County History. Amy also serves on the Local History
Conference Planning Committee for the Historical Society of Michigan
(https://www.hsmichigan.org/).

Cindy Reszke (Radiological Technology) is actively involved in serving
the Michigan Society of Radiologic Technologists (http://msrt.org/).
Cindy has served the organization in multiple roles such as President,
Board of Directors Chair, Continuing Education Coordinator, and
Affiliate Delegate.
Toby Haske (Dental Hygiene) is a State Senator representing Michigan
dental hygiene educators with the American Dental Hygienist
Association (http://www.adha.org/). Her role is to inform and facilitate
communication between ADHA and dental hygiene educators with
information that impacts the profession and education of dental
hygiene.
Rebecca Hall (Surgical Technology) has recently been elected
secretary for Association of Surgical Assistants
(https://www.surgicalassistant.org/). Delta College is currently
considering starting a Surgical Assisting program.
Scott Schultz (Physics) is being awarded the 2015 Homer L. Dodge
Citation for Distinguished Service to American Association of Physics
Teachers to be Awarded to Scott Schultz In Washington D.C. this July.
He continues to be the Principle Investigator and lead for the
Association’s New Faculty Experience for Two-Year College Faculty.
He is also helping to lead the Two-Year College Leadership Institute
this summer for the association

Mike Faleski (Physics) has been the Academic Coordinator of the
American Association of Physics Teachers PhysicsBowl
(http://www.aapt.org/programs/physicsbowl/) since 2008. In 2015, the
competition served nearly 10,000 high school students competed from
the US, Canada, and China. Mike has also also just finished his term
as Section Representative to American Association of Physics teachers
from the Michigan section of AAPT. This was his tenth year as a
member of the MIAAPT Board, serving twice in the Presidential Chain.
Bernadette Harkness (Chemistry) is the Coordinator for Project Seed
for the Midland Section of the American Chemical Society.
Kevin Dehne (Physics, Astronomy) has served on the Michigan Earth
Science Teachers Association board

years. During this time he has served as President and Rock Shop
Coordinator. Currently he serves as the Cranson Field
Scholarship Award chair. Kevin has been involved with the creation
and organization of the Great Lakes Star Gaze

Carrie Burdzinski (Biology) served as the 2013-14 President of
Dysautonomia Information Network (http://www.dinet.org/).

Jon Gittins (Chemistry) is the Newsletter Editor for the Two-Year
College Chemistry Consortium (http://www.2yc3.org/index.php) and
served as Program Chair for the 202nd conference that Delta College
hosted in Fall 2013.
Mark Robertson (Biology) serves on the Board of the Chippewa Nature
Center (http://chippewanaturecenter.org/)
Audra Swarthout (Biology) is Past President (2012-2013) of the
Michigan Branch of the American Society for Microbiology
(http://www.asm.org/) is serving currently as alternate councilor.
Michael Pressler (Biology) is the President of Michigan Branch of the
American Society for Microbiology (http://www.asm.org/). Mike has
overseen two regional conferences. Mike wrote and received a grant
for the state association for promoting women in microbiology and
promoting industrial microbiology.

Chuck Cribley (Technical, Trades, and Manufacturing) received a national “Energy Star Partner
of the Year” award from the Environmental Protection Agency, which manages the Energy Star
program. Chuck is a certified “HERS” (Home Energy Rating System) Rater which enables him
to certify new Energy Star homes and conduct energy audits. The award recognized Chuck for
his efforts to help educate builders and trades in energy efficient building principles;
encouraging builders to move toward more efficient processes and products; training builders’
staff personnel in thermal enclosure and air-sealing principles; and providing instruction and
guidance to Delta College students. (not pictured)
Jim Ham (Mathematics) is the Midwest Vice President for the American
Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges
(http://www.amatyc.org/) and President-Elect candidate in the Fall of
2015. Jim has served this organization in numerous offices and
committees working on professional development, grants, position
papers, and conference planning. Jim has also been the President of
MichMATYC (http://www.michmatyc.org/) the Michigan affiliate of
AMATYC.
Frances Lichtman (Mathematics) is a state delegate of the American
Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges
(http://www.amatyc.org/) representing the Michigan affiliate
organization MichMATYC (http://www.michmatyc.org/).
Toni Clegg (Accounting) is a member of the Board for the Saginaw
Valley Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants
(http://www.imamichigan.org/saginawvalley/). She has also served as
their President and Vice President of Administration.

Julie Goldman (Accounting) is also a member of the Board for the Saginaw Valley Chapter of
the Institute of Management. She has also served as their President and Vice President of
Administration.
Janet Alexander (English) is the Chair of the Pastoral Council at St. Agnes Parish in Freeland Stuart Barbier (English) is the Secretary of the Center Avenue Neighborhood Association in Bay City (http://canabaycity.org/). Marianne Bird (English) is the President of the Saginaw Township Board of Education (http://www.stcs.org/District/1113-­‐Board-­‐of-­‐Education.html) as well as a Board member of both PRIDE (Positive Results in a Downtown Environment) (http://www.prideinsaginaw.org/) and the East Side Soup Kitchen in Saginaw (http://www.eastsidesoupkitchen.org/). Neville Britto (English) is the President of the Board of Trustees of the Public Libraries of Saginaw (http://www.saginawlibrary.org/), the Chair of the Board of the Weslund Guidance Clinic (http://www.westlundguidanceclinic.com/) in Saginaw, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Saginaw Valley Rehabilitation Corporation (http://svrcindustries.com/), and a Board member of Saginaw Advocacy for Individuals with Disabilities (http://svrcindustries.com/said/). 6 of 8
