Each registrant will receive a Goody Bag and have the opportunity to participate in our Raffle and Auction. Bring address labels to put on the raffle tickets for easy identification. CLASSES Photos of class projects will be posted on the Tat Days page of our website www.FringeTatters.ca/tat-days/ as they become available. NEW TO TATTING? A. Beginner / Refresher Needle Tatting with Debbi Pepin (long or short class) Skill Level: No prior knowledge required. Class Description: Learn the basics of needle tatting – rings, chains, picots, joining picots. Start your tweens & teens tatting. Depending on time and interest we might venture into split rings, beads, Josephine chains, 2 color tatting (requires 2 needles) and avoiding the dreaded twisted picot. Required Materials: Bring a tatting needle and thread to match the size of your tatting needle (can be purchased from one of our vendors). Preferably a size 5 needle with size 10 crochet thread. Small scissors, steel crochet hook appropriate to thread being used, and a needle to thread ends in. B. Beginner / Refresher Shuttle Tatting with Norm Reid (long or short class) Skill Level: No prior knowledge required. Class Description: Learn the basics of shuttle tatting – rings, chains, joining picots, joining threads, reading patterns. More advanced if time permits. Another opportunity to start your tweens & teens tatting. Required Materials: Bring a shuttle and 2 colours of thread (can be purchased from one of our vendors). 2 LONG TATTING CLASSES (3 hours) C. Flying Shuttle Bird with Heather Lickley Skill Level: Beginner. Shuttle instruction only. Class Description: We’ll be making a mobile flying bird. Participants will be expected to use their imaginations. Techniques Involved: Ring, chains, special joins and joining pieces together. Prior knowledge required. Required Materials: 2 shuttles and at least 2 balls of multicoloured thread. D. Tatted Cabochon Broach with Vicki Clarke Skill Level: Beginner. Project is suitable for either Shuttle or Needle Tatting. Class Description: Explore construction techniques used in bead embroidery and translate them into a tatted project. Tatters will learn about glues & when they are used, and when to use a needle & thread. The same skills will allow a tatter to make beautiful pendants and necklaces. To help finish the project in class, students can do a little homework before class (which will be detailed with their class confirmation). Techniques Involved: Basic tatted rings. Tatter will learn how to mount a cabochon, sew and finish a broach. Required Materials: Bring a tatting shuttle or tatting needle, size 20 thread and Dazzle Thread. (You received a spool of dazzle thread in your 2013 Fringe goody bag. Vicki will have some Dazzle thread in class for those who need it.) Also, bring a needle small enough for beads, and sharp scissors. Plus Mandatory Kit: $3. Includes felt, cabochon, beads, and flat back broach pin. E. Blossom the Garden Fairy with Karey Solomon Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. Project is suitable for either Shuttle or Needle Tatting, with focus on shuttle instruction. Class Description: Blossom the little flower fairy is ready to bless your garden with abundant, colorful flowers, watering them carefully at night, bringing sunbeams and bees, and chasing away aphids and slugs. Several techniques keep the project interesting, but it isn’t hard. Techniques Involved: Layered tatting, a bobble head, Josephine chain arms, multiple colours, and beadwork if wanted. Required Materials: One needle (the smallest size you can thread size 10 thread through!); Several shuttles, 4 colors of size 10 thread – one for the skirt, one for the wings, a flower colour for the hair and a skin color. One of the colours (skirt or wings) may be variegated. Beads optional. F. 3-D Tatted Bee with K Boniface Skill Level: Intermediate. Shuttle instruction only. Class Description: Heard the buzz? K's project is the bee's knees ... and body ... and of course wings! Techniques Involved: Block tatting, balanced double stitch, inverted picots. Prior knowledge of techniques is helpful but not required. Required Materials: Bring 3 shuttles, preferably with hooks, or small crochet hook; Thread in 2 contrasting colors plus a small amount of black or very dark brown for antennae and legs, 3rd color of thread in light color such as blue or green for wings plus metallic thread in color of choice (optional) to embellish wings (size 10 works well for head and body, and size 20 for wings); Seed beads size 6 or 8 for eyes. G. Angel Garland with Ginny Weathers Skill Level: Advanced. Project is suitable for Shuttle Tatting. Shuttle instruction only. Class Description: You can tat a garland of many angels or just one! They have beaded wings, a Maltese tatting head, and a metal center. Techniques Involved: Maltese tatting. Single shuttle tatting with beads. Long beaded picots. Required Materials: Size 20 thread, 2 shuttles, small hook for adding beads. Plus Mandatory Kit: $5. Includes metal center, size 11 seed beads clear & gold. 3 SHORT TATTING CLASSES (2 hours) H. Tatted Christmas Stocking Ornament with Jane Moody Skill Level: Beginner. Pattern is suitable for Shuttle or Needle Tatting. Shuttle instruction only. Class Description: Learn to make a tatted Christmas Stocking ornament. Techniques Involved: If you can tat rings and chains this pattern is for you. Required Materials: Red size 3 thread and a small quantity of white size 3 thread. Tatsy© shuttle preferable. Optional Kit: Cost to be determined. I. Owlexandra the Celtic Owl with Karey Solomon Skill Level: Beginner. Project is suitable for either Shuttle or Needle Tatting, with focus on shuttle instruction. Class Description: Owlexandra is one of those night owls who loves to have a good time – and she’s a hoot to tat. You should be able to make at least one of her during class. Techniques Involved: Based on rings and chains – mainly one very long chain – treated to a few Celtic twists and turns. Required Materials: Size 5 or 10 or 20 thread (BUT NOT Lisbeth “Twirlz” – it’s too twirly) and one shuttle. J. Diamond Bracelet with Vicki Clarke Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. Suitable for either Shuttle or Needle Tatting. Class Description: Bugle beads are used to make diamonds on a bracelet tatted using rings and chains. Pattern can be altered to make it more challenging for advanced tatters. Techniques Involved: Students only need to know rings and chains. We’ll learn one simple way of adding beads. Required Materials: Size 40 thread. Fine tipped crochet hook. Optional Kit: $1.50. Includes bugle beads (2 x 6 mm); jump rings; and lobster clasp. K. Up in the Sky … It’s a Bird … It’s a Plane … IT’S A PIG !?! with Kelly Dunn Skill Level: Intermediate. Suitable for either Shuttle or Needle Tatting. Needle instruction only. Class Description: Have you ever looked at a shuttle written pattern and thought “I can’t do that with a needle!!” Well you can!! With the kind permission of Jane Eborall I have her Flying Pig pattern for us needle tatters to tackle. With this pattern we will be adapting shuttle instructions into needle. Techniques Involved: Rings, chains, split rings and floating rings. Required Materials: Bring your regular tatting supplies. Size 10 or 20 thread in any colour (pink if you like pink pigs!) L. Dragonfly Earrings with Ginny Weathers Skill Level: Intermediate. Project is suitable for either Shuttle or Needle Tatting. Shuttle instruction only. Class Description: Tat a cute pair of dragonflies to wear. Techniques Involved: Split rings. Seed beads added to picots. Required Materials: Two shuttles, small hook for adding beads to picot. Plus Mandatory Kit: $5. Includes wing beads, earwires, seed beads, jump rings, thread. 4 NON-TATTING CLASSES M. Fun with Marg Chadwick & Wynn Reid (long or short class) Try your hand at knitting or crochet … or perhaps macramé a Natural Bead Bracelet using hemp / twine and wooden beads. Required Materials: Depending on the project chosen, tools and materials may be supplied or available for a minimal cost (eg: about $5 for the Natural Bead Bracelet). N. Multiplied Sparkle with Brenda Franklin (long class) Skill Level: All levels. Class Description: Combine a variety of bead shapes and sizes to create an exciting collection of beaded beads that can be used for larger projects. So dig around in that bead collection and be ready for fun. Techniques Involved: Basic bead weaving techniques. Required Materials: Bring various sizes and shapes of beads (4 to 6 larger beads and 12 or more smaller beads of various types, shapes and sizes), bead mat, scissors, beading needle and beading thread Plus Optional Kit: Brenda will have optional supplies available for a small fee. O. Preserve a Penny Pendant with Brenda Franklin (short class) Skill Level: All levels. Class Description: The Canadian penny has been discontinued so let's display this copper maple leaf with pride using beads to capture and hold the penny. Techniques Involved: Lace bead weaving. Required Materials: Bring bead mat and scissors. Plus Mandatory Kit: Includes beading needle and thread, split ring, various size 10/0 beads and Canadian penny. Cost $2 Note: necklace chain is not included. P. Basics of Hardanger with Ietje Jackovich (5 hour class – Friday evening and Saturday morning) Skill Level: All levels. Class Description: Have you ever wondered how hardanger is stitched? The first basic steps will be taught so you can read any pattern and get started. We will have several samples to show in class. Techniques Involved: Stitching kloster and satin stitch motifs; cutting fabric; weaving bars and decorative fill-in stitches. Required Materials: Small embroidery hoop, small SHARP scissors, magnifier if needed. Plus Mandatory kit - Estimated cost $10 – $15. Contains fabric, thread, needle, instructions. 5 SATURDAY LUNCH The cost is included as part of your Registration. Please list any dietary requirements on your Registration Form. VENDORS We are lining up Vendors to take care of your tatting needs, with a variety of Threads, Beads, Books, Shuttles, Needles, and many other tatting goodies and supplies. If there are any particular items that you would like our Vendors to bring, please list them on your Registration Form. LOCATION All official activities of our event are being held at the Best Western Hotel & Conference Centre on Highway 24 at the 401 (730 Hespeler Rd., Cambridge, ON.
