MUSEUM ARCHITECTURE (Department Elective)
Methods and Objectives:
This course aims to explore the concept, content and architecture of museums. This is aimed to be
achieved, on the one hand, through the discussions on several themes such as history and function of
museums; the role they have been playing as cultural institutions; as well as contemporary
approaches to museum architecture. To realize this, a series of lectures will be held and readings will
be discussed in the classes.
Requirements:
Course works include weekly readings. All required readings will be handed out and must be finished
before class meetings. There will be an assignment on planning/designing a fictitious exhibition.
Students are expected to select the concept, content and place of their exhibition. Students are also
expected to prepare a presentation and a written report about a museum in Turkey.
Grading:
10 % Participation: Participation in the weekly class discussions on readings & presentations
15 % Midterm Exam I: Assignment (draft submission)
15 % Midterm Exam II: PowerPoint Presentation of the research (draft submission)
60 % Final Exam: 30 % Assignment (final submission) & 30 % Report on the research (final
