2015 FOSS National Summer Institute

FOSS K-­‐5 Next Generation Institute 2015 The FOSS Project, in cooperation with Delta Education, invites you and your science leadership team to experience the Next Generation of Active Learning by attending the FOSS K-­‐5 Next Generation Summer Institute. Dates: July 8-­‐10, 2015 Location: Lawrence Hall of Science University of California at Berkeley Topics of discussion will include: • How FOSS addresses the three dimensions of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) • Student engagement in scientific and engineering practices through first-­‐hand investigations • The K-­‐5 FOSS Next Generation conceptual frameworks leading to the scope and sequence • Overview of the new and revised components • Effective implementation strategies for new and existing users Who should attend? The institute is designed for administrators, science curriculum coordinators, lead elementary teachers, and professional developers interested in starting to implement FOSS Next Generation in the 2015-­‐16 school year. Teams of 2-­‐4 people from schools and districts are encouraged to register and will receive priority. Registration Fee and Deadline – May 15, 2015 The cost to attend is $175 for individuals, or $150 per person for those coming in teams. Registration is limited to 40 participants. If you will be flying in, use either the Oakland Airport (closer and more convenient) or San Francisco Airport. Plan to arrive Tuesday evening and to depart after 3pm on Friday. Information about shuttles from the airport to the hotel will be included with your confirmation. We will provide transportation between the hotel and the institute at Lawrence Hall of Science each day. Lodging Institute participants should make hotel arrangements at the hotel below. A block of rooms is being held at a special group rate at each hotel. You will pay for your room directly. Ask for the FOSS Group rate. Reserve by June 8 to guarantee room rate.
