MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn, worked 2 strands, 2 skeins, 198 grams each
(This design used one strand of grey, and one strand of ivory.)
Crochet Hook, size 9mm (US M)
Yarn needle
INSTRUCTIONS: (Gauge is not important in this design.)
You will be working a rectangle as though making a scarf.
1. Adult: Chain 22,
Teens: Chain 20,
Age 8 to 10: Chain 18,
Age 3 to 8: Chain 16,
double crochet in the 3rd stitch from the hook, and in each stitch of the chain.
2. Chain 2 and turn, working in the back side of the stitch only, double crochet in each
stitch across the row.
3. Repeat step 2 until the scarf is approximately 40 inches long. Fasten off.
(The measure of 40 inches is given for adults, for children, decrease the size as you
wish. The scarf will drape over the head, and down the two sides.)
4. Fold the scarf in half, and slip stitch the back seam closed. For adult, the seam will be
about 8 inches long. Adjust the length for smaller sizes. (Seam length does not have
to be any exact measurement.)
Make the tassels:
For each tassel cut 6 lengths of yarn approximately 14 inches long. Fold in
half, pull the fold through a stitch at the end of the scarf, then pull the ends
of the yarn through the fold, pull to tighten up. (Larkshead knot formed).
Evenly space 4 tassels on each end of the scarf.
Make a tassel at the top peak of the hood in the same way.
Cut 6 lengths of yarn 16 inches long, and attach with a larkshead knot.
