ALLURE SCARF MATERIALS

ALLURE SCARF
Easy
MATERIALS
• 1 ball of Patons Allure 100g
• one pair of 5.50mm knitting needles
• matching sewing thread and sewing needle
NOTE – Due to this knitting technique, the finished length and width
of the scarf will be variable. The distance between the stitches
and the number of stitches worked in each row will determine
the dimensions. The scarf will lengthen when worn causing it to
become a little narrower.
Our pictured scarf is worked with 5 sts: working with more stitches
will make your scarf wider but shorter.
NEATENING THE END
Spread approx 10cm of the yarn widthways. Trim to neaten the
end, then fold this end over twice. Using matching sewing thread
and sewing needle, sew hem neatly in place (pic 1).

TO BEGIN KNITTING
CAST ON BY PICKING UP STITCHES ALONG ONE EDGE
Spread the yarn widthways for the next 15cm.
To pick up the first stitch, holding the yarn in your left hand and the
knitting needle in your right hand, insert the needle from back to
the front through a hole at the top edge of the hem, then pick up
another 4 stitches in this way, about 3-4cm apart along the same
edge (pic 2).
Turn your work so that the needle with the stitches is now in your
left hand.
2
Insert your right-hand needle into the front of the first st on the lefthand needle, then through the edge of the unworked yarn, approx
3-4cm along (pic 3). Draw this new edge stitch through the old
stitch and onto your right-hand needle, at the same time slipping
the old stitch off the left-hand needle – one stitch is now completed.
Repeat this process for remaining stitches, spreading the yarn
widthways as needed and always working along the same edge.

WORKING YOUR SCARF LENGTH
TO NEATEN CAST-OFF EDGE
Turn your work and continue working each row in the same manner
until approximately 15cm of yarn remains.
Trim remaining yarn to 4cm. Spread the mesh, fold over twice and
sew neatly in position (as at start of scarf). If desired, spread any
areas not fully open along the outside edge of scarf ruffle.
TO CAST OFF
Knit first 2 stitches of row. Using the tip of your left-hand needle,
pick up first knitted stitch, take it over 2nd stitch and off end of
needle. Knit another stitch and repeat this process until the last
stitch is left on right-hand needle. Pull remaining yarn end through
this stitch and pull up firmly to fasten off.
