FREE REFRESHMENTS AFTERWARDS! The Elders Ensemble is a group of 8 postprofessional dancers ages 60-92. Several of the dancers studied with the greats of modern
dance, such as Martha Graham. The value of age and experience is vital to our understanding
of life as a whole. The Ensemble was formed to provide a venue to express and experience the
grace and depth of artistry that only elder dancers possess. Prometheus Elders will perform two
original pieces telling stories of their lives as dancers, daughters, mothers, and friends through
movement. Following the performance is a post-performance discussion with the audience with
the aim of reflecting upon the work.
THE GRAND FINALE of Older American’s Month will be lunch and entertainment,
co-sponsored by the COA and the Friends of the Arlington COA on Thursday May 28 at 12:00

From Kids to Seniors and Back Again
Starting Tuesday May 26, storyteller John Porcino is doing an inter-generational storytelling
project with elementary school children and seniors, funded by a grant from the Arlington
Cultural Council. John describes this project as “a magical program in which seniors tell their
stories to a group of wide-eyed, smiling and laughing children. With each word, the distance
between adults and kids become smaller. The synergy that happens is nothing short of magical,
leaving the kids happy and the seniors vibrating with life force.” John meets with the children
and then the seniors separately, on Tuesday May 26 to teach storytelling basics. On May 28 the
children and seniors gather together at the COA to share their stories.
