2015 ARTESIA DES SCHOLARSHIP
REQUIREMENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS
PURPOSE
The Artesia D.E.S. offers annual scholarships to its members and/or children of its members who are pursuing degrees in
higher education. Below are the requirements for completing the application.
ELIGIBILITY – All applicants must meet the following two categories.
1.
A graduating high school senior, from the class of 2015, who has been accepted or conditionally accepted at an
accredited institution of higher education and/or students currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning.
2.
Must be a member in good standing and/or child of a member in good standing of the Artesia D.E.S. for at least
two (2) consecutive years.
AWARD CONDITIONS
1.
Applicants actively participating in the Band and/or Soccer Club of the Artesia DES will have priority to fifty (50)
percent of the scholarships. These recipients must prove their active participation in their discipline for at least
one (1) full year prior to the awarding date of the scholarship.
2.
Recipients must remain full-time students (a minimum of 12 units per semester) during the year the scholarship is
awarded.
3.
The scholarship award will be disbursed when the student presents verification of completion of one quarter or
semester of college work with a minimum of a 2.75 grade point average as verified by official grade reports.
HOW TO APPLY
1.
Please send the following items by July 1, 2015 to:

a.
Provide a completed 2015 Artesia D.E.S. Scholarship Application.
b.
Provide a typewritten ESSAY of 1,500 words or less, discussing your main academic interest and why you
chose it; and your educational and career objectives. Please tell how your life experiences have influenced
your intellect and personal growth rather than providing a chronology.
c.
Provide three letters of recommendation from individuals who will vouch for candidate’s academic standing,
character and personality. At least one of these letters must be from the Principal, Dean, or Counselor who
will verify participation in any extra-curricular activities. Another from a teacher of the high school attended.
The third may be from any other source except a relative. Individuals writing letters are to include their titles
or position.
