ORFF SCHULWERK TEACHER EDUCATION
LEVEL 1
June 15-26, 2015
8:30-4:45 (Monday-Friday)
This course is designed for music teachers and senior music education majors who want to earn Level I
training in the Orff Schulwerk approach. Instruction will include study of basic Orff techniques,
movement, and soprano recorder. Class size is limited to 30. Minimum class size is 15. The course
follows the curriculum approved by the American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA). All classes will
be given in Lorton Performance Center on The University of Tulsa campus.

COURSE INSTRUCTORS
JANET HENDERSON, Basic Pedagogy, Recorder, has recently retired from Tulsa Public Schools,
where she taught elementary music, emphasizing the Orff Schulwerk approach. In her thirty-seven years of
teaching, Janet has taught elementary general music, middle school band, orchestra, choir and elementary
education in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cleveland, Ohio, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Janet continues to hold
leadership roles in Tulsa Green Country Orff Chapter. She has been Instructor of Basic Pedagogy, Recorder
and Movement for Orff Levels Courses and workshops after completing apprenticeship at the Eastman
School of Music. She received her Orff Levels training and Master Class at the University of Memphis, and
has attended the Special Course at the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria.
MICHELLE MCCARVER, Movement, teaches kindergarten through fifth grade music at Arrowhead
Elementary School in Broken Arrow, OK. She is presently serving as vice-president of the Green Country
Oklahoma Orff Chapter and as chairman of the annual Tulsa area Orff Festival. Her Orff Schulwerk levels
course training and post-master course training were completed through Southern Methodist University, and
her apprenticeship in movement was completed at the University of St. Thomas. In 2013 she attended the Orff
Schulwerk summer course at the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria.
ORFF LEVEL I COURSE INFORMATION:
 COURSE COST = $600
 Complete REGISTRATION FORM and send with CHECK for full payment of $600, payable to
The University of Tulsa. Payment is due by May 20, 2015
 Course fees are NON-REFUNDABLE, unless required enrollment is not met
 Required materials will be available from WEST MUSIC in the lobby before the first class
 Confirmation information will be sent to those registered on or before May 20, 2015
