POTTERY I & BEYOND – TUESDAY 1-4 p.m. SIX WEEK COURSE With Karen Hjort-jensen 6 weeks starting May 12th The six week Beginners and Beyond pottery course is ideal for getting a taste of the basic skills involved in creating pottery and, for those with previous clay experience, it is an opportunity for consolidation and taking your skills to the next level. Within this six week time frame students will learn the elements and techniques for throwing the three standard forms – bowls, cylinders, and plates – in addition to making and attaching handles and lugs. Instruction will also be given in basic decorating techniques including pre-‐glaze preparation, underglazing and glazing. Week 1: Orientation to studio Cleaning the studio Basics of working with clay Throwing a bowl Week 2: Refresher -‐ throwing a bowl Trimming a bowl Throwing a cylinder Week 3: Refresher -‐ throwing a cylinder Trimming a cylinder Making and attaching pulled handles Practice – bowl and cylinder Week 4: Throwing a plate Different techniques for throwing handles Practice -‐ bowls, cyclinders, plates Week 5: Finishing and preparing for a bisque firing Week 6: Preparing for a glaze firing including waxing Different glazing techniques Glazing pots glaze firing _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Pottery Studio Memberships $80 per term Students who have taken a pottery course can use our facilities to create their own pottery pieces. Access to the studio is Tues-Friday from 10-5 and when evening classes are running. Membership access is May 5th- June 27 Pottery Date Nights: Explore something new together! Come try your hand at one of our potter`s wheels alongside someone special. Share a special moment while learning the basic techniques in throwing a pot. May 24, June 21, 7-9:30p.m. $50 per couple (we will fire and glaze your pottery for $10 per piece extra)
