STUDENT ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
2015
The San Diego Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Pipeline and Environmental
Group is collecting applications from eligible civil engineering students with an emphasis on water,
wastewater and environmental studies for the purpose of awarding scholarships. The scholarships to be
awarded by the ASCE San Diego Section Pipeline and Environmental Group are as follows:

Maximum of three (3) scholarships to San Diego State University (SDSU) upper level
undergraduates or first year graduate students focused on the water, wastewater and
environmental studies of civil engineering. Each scholarship amount will be in the range of
$750-1250.
ELIGIBILITY
Junior or senior undergraduate or 1 year graduate student in good standing at SDSU may apply
for this scholarship. International students are also eligible.
Student must be enrolled in SDSU during the 2015 school year.
Applicants must demonstrate a minimum of 3.0 major grade point average (GPA).
Membership in local ASCE Student Chapter is encouraged but it is not required.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Submit one (1) electronic copy of the application package to Nicole Murphy at
[email protected] by Friday, March 20, 2015. No application package is deemed
received until the applicant receives an email response that it has been received.
2. The application package must include Items a-g below:
a. Application form, completed and signed (see attached);
b. Unofficial SDSU transcript;
c. List of awards and honors received (if any);
d. Description of professional organization affiliations (including involvement and
chair/board positions, if applicable);
e. Summary of community service/involvement;
f. Work experience (company name, job duties);

g. Essay (max 1-page) addressing the following topics:
i. Why did you choose to be a Civil Engineer?
ii. What are your educational goals?
iii. How are you gaining leadership skills/experience?
iv. Where do you see your self working in 10 years?
v. What type of projects would you prefer to work on as a professional engineer?
List a couple of recent local San Diego water/wastewater projects that would be
an excellent fit for your future career goals.
3. Interviews of the application finalists may be scheduled in early April 2015. The scholarship
recipients will be notified mid-April 2015 and invited to attend the April 2015 ASCE San Diego
Pipeline and Environmental Group meeting to announce the winners.
