Bridget Baby Blanket

Sheet1
Bridget Baby Blanket
This pattern was named for my friend Bridget who gave birth to an adorable
baby boy. I decided to make this for her. A huge endeavor for me since I
had never done any one project of this scale. Truly a labor of love. Unlike
her labor of love... but that's a whole other story...
This was constructed out of 3 panels. Knit and then joined together. Then
there was the border which was added at the very end. I didn't bother with
guage or anything like that since there is no real standard for a blanket for
a baby. So you can decide what size you want your finshed blanket to be.
I'll just give you the patterns, and what I did. Feel free to alter.
What you'll need:
3 skeins of Bernat Softee Baby yarn (I used the Mint color), one skein
contains 362 yds.
Size 7 needles, can be round knit or straight needles, you decide.
A Cable Needle
A Yarn Needle for assembly
One large bottle of Bacardi (optional)
Panels one and three:
Elfin Lace Stitch
All slip stitches are slipped as if to knit.
Pattern repeat: Multiples of 8 sts + 1
For panel one (The big panel), (I cast on 89 sts)
Row 1, and all wrong side rows: Purl Across
Row 2:
K2, YO, SSK, (K6, YO, SSK) across to last 5 sts, K5

Repeat rows 1-16. On my blanket this panel ended up with a
finished measurement of 22” wide by 23 1/2” long. I ended
up with row 16 as my last row then binded off in Purl.
For panel three (The medium panel), (I cast on 33 sts)
Repeat the Elfin Lace pattern until the panel measures 9”
wide by 23 1/2” long. As with the big panel, finish on row
16 and bind off in Purl.
Panel Two
Blarney Kiss Panel

For this panel, you will need to know two cable stitches, and they
are:

hold at front of work. K2 from left needle, and K2 from
cable needle.
C4B (Cable 4 Back): Slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and

Repeat rows 1 – 16 until panel measures 23 1/2” x 3 1/2”
How's that Bacardi? Might want to take a run to the liquor store about
this time....
Last (but not least), the Border. Now what I did was to stitch the Panels
together. With the cast off stitches all on the bottom of the piece. Then
I measured each finished sides to get the total I needed for the border.
It turned out to be 118” finished. Yours may vary. Or you might decide
to do the blanket without the border. Again, your choice.

Repeat rows 1 – 8 until desired length.
Finishing: Place all empty Bacardi bottles in a recycle
bin and check local listings for the nearest
AA meeting. :-)
OH! On a side note, That little baby blocks thing at the corner was
an iron on embroidered thing I got from Michaels. It came in a pack
with other baby stuff. I just did a garter stitch for 8 or 10 rows, like
10 or 12 stitches with size 5 needles in white. Ironed on the blocks
and stitched that on at the end.
The package said BABY TALK Iron-On Appliques. Feel free to skip
this part. I guaranty the blanket will still be lovely.
