More information about the original pattern is here: http://fuzzygalore.biz/patterns/
cbbooties.shtml. My take uses larger needles and worsted-weight yarn to make an old favorite
even faster to knit.
Materials:
- Jil Eaton Minnow Merino Classic Elite Yarns, 77 yards, 50 grams - way less than 1 skein, or
any other worsted-weight yarn.
- A set of five #7 double-point needles (REALLY, even if you don’t like double-points).
- Ribbons for ties, or you can use your yarn to make i-cord or 4-strand square braids. Video
instructions for making the braided cord are available at journalgazette.net/craftyliving,
Math4Knitters, Crafty Living: Show 39.
Gauge: 5 stitch/inch, but less or more will just fit a baby at a different size.
Size: About 3 to 6 months. The sole of the bootie measures 2.5” long and 1.5” wide, but garter
stitch is very stretchy, so there is a lot of room there.
Cast on 7 stitches and knit 12 garter-stitch ridges (24 rows), slipping 1 stitch at the beginning
of each row. Leave the 7 stitches on one needle, pick up and knit 12 stitches down one side
with the second needle, pick up 7 stitches from the cast-on edge with the third needle, and pick
up 12 more stitches down the other side with the fourth needle. Now, begin working around.
Purl all stitches for 3 rounds.

Now, you are ready to close the toe.
Two needles hold 12 stitches at this moment. Let’s call the one that shares the corner with the
working yarn needle A and the other one needle B. The needle that holds 7 stitches right now
will be our “working needle” for this section.
Slip 1 stitch from needle B to the working needle. Knit 6 stitches, ssk. Turn.
Slip 1 stitch from needle A to the working needle. Knit 6 stitches, knit 2 together. Turn.
Continue working these 2 rows until there are 7 stitches on each needle.
Start working around on all 4 needles again.
Knit 7, [pick up a stitch, slip it back onto the left-hand needle and knit it together with the next
stitch], knit 20 stitches, [pick up a stitch, slip it back onto the left-hand needle and knit it together
with the next stitch].
Knit 1 round.
Eyelet round for ties: *knit 2, yo, knit 2 together* around.
Finally, knit 16 more rounds, and bind off. Darn in ends. Use ribbon or make ties for eyelets.
