Samsung re-signs as Regional Partner for Generations For Peace
Eight year partnership continues to support Youth Development and use of Sport for Social Change in
Jordan and Levant region
23 March 2015 - Amman: Samsung, the global technology giant and TOP Partner of the International
Olympic Committee (IOC), today renewed its regional partnership with Generations For Peace for the
eighth year running.
Samsung has renewed its commitment to Generations For Peace - the only peace-through-sport
organisation officially recognised by the IOC - based on the organisations’ shared values and the
success of Generations For Peace programmes in the region, which use unique sport-based games
as a powerful vehicle for education, behaviour change and youth development. The support is part of
Samsung’s globally-respected Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme “Hope For Children”.
Expressing Samsung’s commitment to Generations For Peace, Mr. Bumsuk Hong, President of
Samsung Electronics Levant said, “Since 2008, our partnership with Generations For Peace has been
driven by our shared interest in social development through sport and education, and our shared focus
on innovation, quality, impact and sustainability. We have been especially impressed with Generations
For Peace’s recent ranking at #32 in the ‘Top 500 NGOs in the World’, and the results being achieved
by empowering youth leaders and teachers to reduce violence, promoting tolerance and responsible
citizenship in their communities and schools.”
HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, IOC Member and the Founder and Chairman of Generations For
Peace, commented: “As our longest-serving partner, Samsung’s support is a wonderful example of an
Olympic TOP Partner supporting our work at a regional level. In communities and schools, we are
using sport to transform conflict and empower children, youth, and teachers. We are also using
Samsung’s technology to benefit our programmes. Samsung and Generations For Peace are
combining our passion and expertise together, to inspire the world and create a better future.”
Since 2008, Samsung’s support has been benefitting Generations For Peace programmes in Iraq,
Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine, empowering volunteers to address local issues of conflict and
violence in their own communities.

Prince Feisal Al Hussein and Sarah Kabbani, dedicated to sustainable peace building and conflict

By providing unique training and continuous support and mentoring to volunteer leaders of youth, GFP

responsible citizenship and working at the grass roots to address local issues of conflict and violence.
Different contexts include inter-tribal, inter-ethnic, and inter-religious violence; gender inequality; postconflict trauma response, reconciliation and reintegration; exclusion of minorities including IDPs,
refugees and people with a disability; and challenges of integration in multi-cultural societies. Conflict
sensitivity, and the full participation and empowerment of girls and women, are integrated into GFP’s
approach.
GFP uses sport as an entry point to engage with children and youth, and our carefully-facilitated sportbased games provide a vehicle for integrated education and behaviour change. In addition to our
sport-based approaches, GFP has also developed arts, advocacy, dialogue, and empowerment
activities to support conflict transformation with children, youth and adults in different contexts.
In the last seven years, we have trained and mentored more than 8,500 volunteer leaders of youth
in 50 countries and territories in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe. With our support, their
ongoing programmes address local issues of conflict and violence, and have touched the lives of more
than 216,000 children, youth and adults.
GFP is ranked #32 in the “Top 500 NGOs in the World” by Global_Geneva. The ranking assesses
non-governmental organisations according to innovation, impact, and sustainability.
GFP is also the only peace-through-sport organisation officially recognised by the International
Olympic Committee.
