Fabric F: Cut four 5-1/2" x 36" strips (border); Fabric G: Cut four 5-1/2" squares (border squares). Cut five 2-1/8" x width of fabric (binding). Block Assembly - Note the alternating color placement in the small and medium triangles - Fabrics B & C. 1. With right sides together sew one 3-7/8" Fabric A square to one 3-7/8" Fabric B square by drawing a diagonal line across and sewing 1/4" on each side. Cut apart on drawn line for two half-square triangles (fig. 1). Repeat for a total of ten units. Repeat for five of the 3-7/8" Fabric A squares with the Fabric C 3-7/8" squares, yielding ten units. Cut the remaining four Fabric A squares in half. 2. Join three Fabric A-B units together as shown, adding a Fabric A triangle to the right side/end as shown in Figure 2. Make two of these triangle strip units. Join three Fabric A-C units together, adding a Fabric A triangle to one end for a total of two of these triangle units. Note the placement and angle of the triangles (it makes a difference!) 3. Join two Fabric A-B units together as shown, adding a Fabric A triangle to the lower end as shown in Figure 3. Make two of these triangle strip units. Join two Fabric A-C units together, adding a Fabric A triangle to the lower end; make two of these triangle strips. 4. Sew the Figure 3, Fabric A-B triangle unit to a Fabric C triangle as shown in Figure 4. Add the Figure 2 triangle strip to the top to complete the half-block. Sew the Fabric D triangle to the bottom to complete the block. Make two of these blocks. Repeat this for the remaining Fabric A-C triangle units and the Fabric B triangles and remaining Fabric D (large) triangles. Make two of these blocks. Sashing and Block Assembly: 5. Sew three Fabric C 3-1/2" squares with two Fabric B sashing strips, beginning and ending with the Fabric C squares. Make three of these horizontal units. (fig. 5) 6. Sew three sashing strips with two blocks, alternating the colors as shown in the color picture. Make two of these units. 7. Sew the sashing rows with the block rows into the quilt center. Borders: 8. Quilt center measures 33-1/2" x 33-1/2". Trim two Fabric E strips to this size, sew to quilt sides and press. Measure and trim the remaining Fabric E strips and sew to quilt top and bottom. 9. Measure and trim the four 5-1/2" border strips to the size of the quilt center (it should measure 35-1/2" x 35-1/2" ). Join two of these to the quilt sides. 10. Sew a 5-1/2" Fabric C square to each short end of the remaining border strips; sew these to quilt top and bottom. 11. Layer and quilt as desired. 12. Piece together the eight 2-1/8" Fabric F strips and use for binding. Tea Cozy Assembly: 1. Use template provided to cut out two Fabric D shapes, two of batting and two of any of remaining fabrics for the inside. 2. Layer in this manner: inside fabric, wrong side up; batting; outside fabric, wrong side down (figure 6). Quilt the two tea cozy units. Trim all three layers even with each other. 3. Place the two units right sides together and stitch around the curve ONLY using a 1/4" seam. Cut and stitch binding along the bottom raw edge. Turn right side out.
