HEADLINERS ANNOUNCED
FOR 2015 ATHFEST MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL JUNE 26TH-28TH
Festival Will Feature New Madrid, The Whigs,
of Montreal, and The Baseball Project
AthFest Educates announced the headliners for the 2015 AthFest Music and Arts Festival, which will
take place June 26th to the 28th in downtown Athens.
This year’s festival will feature a double headliner Friday night, with New Madrid playing in the wake
of their latest, critically acclaimed album Sunswimmer, and then Athens rockers The Whigs close the
night. The Whigs also have a song on the 2015 AthFest Compilation Album, which was compiled and
produced by UGA Music Business students and will be released June 2nd.
Athens’ beloved of Montreal will headline Saturday night for their first main stage AthFest appearance.
Of Montreal has been a cornerstone of the Athens music scene, but has never headlined the festival.
Their AthFest appearance will be part of a tour promoting their new album Aureate Gloom.
Sunday’s headliner is The Baseball Project, featuring Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows, The
Minus 5, R.E.M.), Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate, Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3, Gutterball),
drummer Linda Pitmon (Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3, Zuzu's Petals) and R.E.M.'s Mike Mills.
The Baseball Project—a passion project of the band members to pay tribute to a shared love of
America’s favorite pastime—write and plays songs covering all aspects of baseball, making
appearances playing their music, as well as throwing out first pitches in stadiums across the country.
Troy Aubrey, Booking Chair for AthFest said, "This year's line-up of outdoor headliners is stellar, with
three iconic Athens bands rocking the stage Friday and Saturday nights, and then an exciting project
with an Athens connection, featuring legendary musicians Mike Mills, Steve Wynn and Scott
McCaughey on deck Sunday night to drive the festival home. These great shows are just the tip of the
iceberg of what is going to be an awesome AthFest all around. We can’t wait to announce more acts
soon!”
