This has created an opportunity for a trainee to join our Engineering/Physics team in our Melbourne office. What does a Patent Attorney do? Your work will cross the full spectrum of our clients’ commercial and intellectual property needs. You will liaise with inventors, start-ups, corporate clients, and international IP firms, conduct searches of the patent landscape, assist in drafting patent specifications, prosecute patent applications from filing to grant, provide patentability and infringement advice and assist with patent oppositions (including meeting with experts and drafting evidence and submissions). As a result of our close working relationship with the IP Litigation team at our affiliated firm, Herbert Smith Freehills, you will also have the opportunity to be involved in contentious intellectual property matters before the Australian Federal Court. FPAAAV156236_A4_MELB 240415 What’s on offer? This Graduate Trainee position is an exciting opportunity to enter the patent attorney profession at the ground level. You will be fully trained (through both on the job and formalised external tertiary training) and mentored by leading practitioners in all aspects of a patent attorney’s work. You will attend client meetings and work on a wide range of client matters under the supervision of industry experts. Your day-to-day work will be complemented by your further Intellectual Property Law studies. We will fund your tuition to complete the necessary requirements to become registered as a Patent Attorney and complete your Masters of IP. To assist with your formal studies, we offer a dedicated tutorial program together with paid study leave. You will join a group of trainee patent attorneys which will enable you to study in a supportive team environment. We currently have trainees in both our Melbourne and Sydney offices.
