pure research.
Who are we?
Freehills Patent Attorneys (FPA) is a premier Australian patent attorney
firm. We are affiliated with the international law firm, Herbert Smith
Freehills. Our partners are consistently mentioned in international ranking
publications. They are supported by a talented team of patent attorneys
and business support staff.
Our clients range from blue chip multinationals through to innovative
start-ups, all at the forefront of leading edge technology and innovation
in a wide range of sectors. We provide clients with expert advice on
the creation, management, enforcement and commercialisation of
intellectual property rights including patents and design. FPA continues
to enjoy strong sustained growth in response to national and international
client demand. This has created an opportunity for a trainee to join our
Engineering/Physics team in our Melbourne office.
What does a Patent Attorney do?
Your work will cross the full spectrum of our clients’ commercial and
intellectual property needs. You will liaise with inventors, start-ups, corporate
clients, and international IP firms, conduct searches of the patent landscape,
assist in drafting patent specifications, prosecute patent applications from
filing to grant, provide patentability and infringement advice and assist with
patent oppositions (including meeting with experts and drafting evidence
and submissions).
As a result of our close working relationship with the IP Litigation team at our
affiliated firm, Herbert Smith Freehills, you will also have the opportunity to
be involved in contentious intellectual property matters before the Australian
Federal Court.
