Get Involved for the Fun of It!
ART CLUB
To join our club, students do not have to be “artistic” or “talented”. They do not have to be in the art option class. Students need only be
enthusiastic and responsible. This group meets during the noon hour. Projects include watercolour and tempra painting, calligraphy and
other art materials.
The Art Club members help to arrange displays, circulate art displays throughout the school, and create seasonal theme decorations for
the school.
COMPUTER CLUB
Interested students meet during specified lunch hours in the upstairs computer lab. Games are allowed as long as there is no violence or
anti-social theme. Some members take a leadership role in developing the media support for school assemblies.
These following bands (Concert and Jazz) are performance groups which meet before school or at lunch hour for regularly scheduled
rehearsals.
The rehearsal schedule is set in September. All students in grade 9 band should join concert band.
The concert bands and other co-curricular ensembles participate in any or all of the following activities: band camps, concerts, festivals,
tours of elementary schools, and workshops.
CONCERT BAND: GRADE 9
The concert band is a co-curricular activity open to all grade 9 band students.
Every winter the grade 9 concert band goes to band camp for two days of playing music and doing
recreational activities. This group also attends festivals and performs at elementary schools. As well,
Concert Band members may be invited to be part of the Northern Alberta Honour Band or the Junior
High Honor Band for the Night of Music.

you are interested in acting, you can audition for a role. Actors rehearse several afternoons per week, some lunch hours, and
even on a weekend or two. A little too shy to act? You can be part of one of our many crews. From set design to costume
creation, there are tons of ways to get involved. Tech meetings are usually held at lunch hours, but sometimes we meet after
school. This all culminates with a musical production!
There is a cost of $50.00 to students to help offset production costs.
Citadel Club:
Every year, the Citadel offers a special price to junior high and high school students. A students club membership “buys” a
subscription to six main stage plays, a snack before the play, a pre-show discussion taking you into the backstage world of the
productions, and following each performance, a special talk-back session with the actors and/or the creative team from the
production. Enjoy the life of the theater with other students and teacher supervision.
The package price for Citadel Club is $235.00.

develop their leadership skills. For example, students can help plan dances and in-school activities through the Social Board, volunteer
to create community projects through the Service Board, or have the opportunity to develop their emcee skills through the
Communications Board. Avalon’s Student Council also serves as an umbrella organization that encompasses all our wonderful clubs
and teams.
OTHER CLUBS
Teachers are often approached by students who have creative ideas for new clubs and groups. Past examples include the newspaper,
chess and scrabble club, the craft club, the games club, movie club, sewing club, peer support and the anime club. If you would like to
start a new club, put together a proposal and ask a teacher to sponsor you. It’s a great way to meet new friends and make productive
