Avalon Yacht Club TOPSIDER April 1, 2015 • Volume 74, Issue 2 Dear AYC friends, April Restaurant Hours DINING ROOM CLOSED GRILL ROOM Open Fridays ONLY 5:30 to 9:30PM PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF OUR NEIGHBORS! Please take note, slow down and exercise caution. While Old Man Winter has been doggedly holding on in his attempt to prolong his stay, Father Time will win out eventually…which means that SUMMER is on its way! Earlier this month, the Commodore saw his shadow, and the Club opened the 2015 season with spring hours in the Grill Room on Friday nights. So far, attendance in our “shoulder season” has been strong; the spring wedding season is also upon us, generating an essential revenue stream to support our Club facilities and programming for members. I hope that some of you can join together with your family friends for Easter Brunch at the Club – if you are planning to attend, please make your reservations now! And speaking of reservations, you’ll also want to get yours for brunch on Mother’s Day as well…seating is limited for both of these Spring favorites, so don’t miss out! We’re also pleased to welcome our sailing friends from neighboring yacht clubs for a MAYRA luncheon and meeting on April 17th; this promises to be a nice event for our flag officers and sailing committee chairs to network with our counterparts and to kickoff the 2015 MAYRA season; thanks to PC John Groskoph (who happens to be the current MAYRA Commodore) for his role in getting this event off the ground. The new season has also meant the rollout of the Club’s new “cashless” system; don’t forget – now, you can sign for your purchases, which will then appear on your monthly statement. Also, you can set up payment arrangements on the revised club website and our new “Members only” section (click on the link on the upper right hand corner of the AYC homepage). You’ll need your club member number to log in, and you’ll be prompted to create a password. You can also edit your profile information online, look up other member’s contact information on their profiles, and set your preferences for communication (Topsider, weekly email blasts, etc.). I’m sure that the staff would be happy to help any member who asks for assistance. I’m sure you’ll find the new system and webpage will make things much more convenient for you. And remember – you can’t pay with cash, but you can choose to use cash for gratuities for exceptional service from our staff. This month’s Topsider highlights a few of the signature events that we have planned for the summer – I hope that you can join us for some of the fun evening entertainment that we have planned. Also, we thrilled to welcome back our sailors, young and old, and their families (and don’t forget the arts and craft crowd, too). Mah Jong, bridge, Women’s Auxililary events, golf and tennis – it’s all coming into focus for summer 2015. 7th Street is a residential street, busy with children, grandchildren, homeowners and pets. Please slow down when travelling on 7th Street, especially when entering and exiting the parking lot. Spring is here – so says the calendar, if not the thermometer – so we’re in the homestretch! Looking forward to seeing you all very soon at the AYC. HONOR A PAST COMMODORE Why not pay tribute to a Past Commodore for their years of service at AYC and at the same time add artwork to the renovated Club Room on our second floor? A new project is in place to do just that! You can arrange to have a copy of the Past Commodore’s yearbook cover matted, framed and labeled with their name and year. These framed tributes will hang on the walls of the Club Room to honor our Past Commodores. It would make an ideal gift for home or office as well. We have commissioned The Inside Advantage, 2900 Dune Drive, to do this custom framing. The price to honor a Past Commodore is $150. A prototype honoring PC Davis Pearson is on display in the lobby. Please contact Jay Mallon 215-450-1113 for more details.
