No. WR(GJ7B/2013/LBIn the interest of public service and with a view to bringing about a
structural change and to affect greater functional autonomy to the Assam Water Research
and ManagementInstitute[AWRMIJ,Basistha,Guwahati so thatAtfiIRMI could be developed
as a centre of Excellence for Water Resources & River Management in the State, the
Governor of Assam is pleased to noti$r setting up of a society in the name and style as
'Assam
Water Research and Management Institute Society' to confer functional and
financial autonomy to the Assam Water Research and Management Institute, Basistha,
Guwahati under Water ResourcesDepartment Govt.of Assam.
The Societywill be formed in accordancewith the provisions of the Memorandum of
Association (MOAJand the Rules of Business(Bye lawsJ framed for this purpose and shall
be registered under the Societies Act, 1860[Act No.XXI of 1860J. The Society will be
constituted with a Governing Body headed by the Chief Secretary and it will be the apex
body of the Society and will exerciseall administrative, financial, establishmentand other
such powers for managing the Society. An Executive Body headed by the senior most
Secretary,Water ResourcesDepartment will function under general supervision of the
GoverningBody and shall exerciseall powers as laid down in the Rulesof Business.
The Governor of Assam is further pleased to noti$r that the office of the Additional
Chief Engineer,AssamWater Researchand ManagementInstitute will continue to exist and
function even after the creation of the Society and the services of its officers and staff will
be partially placed with the Society for posting in the Assam Water Research and
ManagementInstitute Society and they shall continue to draw their salaries,etc. from the
StateExchequer.
The Water ResourcesDepartment, GoW.of Assam will take necessarysteps to form

schemewithin a period of one month from the date of issue of this Notification.
