Player's Corner
Wanna be the best Soccer player you can be? Then you must
know the Principles of Play. In this issue, you'll get an
overview of the Principles of Play for Attacking:
Penetration, Support, Width, Mobility, and Creativity.
Penetration means moving the ball past opponents by dribbling,
passing, or shooting. This is what players do when they have the
ball. One of the more challenging parts of the game is what to do
when you don't have the ball. That is where the other principles
come in. Support is the nearest attacker who creates safe options
for his teammate with the ball so that it can be passed without
losing possession. Width is the responsibility of the 3rd closest
attacker that spreads out the play and creates space to continue
the attack without losing possession. These first 3 Principles are
the keys to a solid foundation of attacking. Ever hear Coach say
something about TRIANGLES? U6 players begin to learn this
when they play 3 a side. Mobility is the 4th attacker's
responsibility to make runs that will advance the attack forward.
Sometimes this might be a brilliant backside run. Creativity is
the 5th attacker who makes runs off the ball that might serve as a
dummy run, or draw the defenders toward her to open up space
for the other attackers. She may or may not be served the ball,
but she is still vital to the success of the attack!
Be a better player and practice these Principles of Attack in your
game! When all your teammates get familiar with this idea of
attack, then the game can become even more FUN because you
will encourage others to create scoring opportunities! That's
Coach P's 2 sense for today!

AYSO's Philosophies
Everyone Plays: All players must
play at least half of the game. No
player shall play 2 quarters while
another player plays 4.
Open Registration: All children
are welcomed to participate no
matter skill level or location of
residence.
Balance Teams: Teams will have a
mix of beginner, medium, and
highly skilled players to the best
of the coordinator's ability.
Positive Coaching: Coaches are
trained using the AYSO National
Coaching Program appropriate
for the age level they coach.
Psychosocial as well as sports
specific training
recommendations are
emphasized to enable coaches to
deliver the best soccer
experience possible.
Good Sportsmanship: ALL adults
and children act in such a way
that enrich the lives of children.
This is done in various ways
depending on your role as a
Player, Parent, Coach, or Referee.
Player Development: Players
strive to get better with each
training session, each game, each
season. AYSO trained coaches
use age appropriate lessons to
develop training sessions that
emphasize the technical, tactical,
and FUN aspects of the game!
Parents: The AYSO Culture
Whether you've been with AYSO for years or this is your first
season, are you aware of the why's and the how's of why we do
soccer the AYSO way? First, we ALL should familiarize ourselves
with the Vision and Mission of our organization. This is the
driving force behind why we do what we do and how we go about
doing it.
AYSO's Vision is "To provide world class youth soccer programs
that enrich children's lives." Everything we do as an AYSO
Coach or Parent SHOULD align with enriching children's lives.
Whether it's using the AYSO National Coaching Program,
cheering in a positive manner for all players, or helping to manage
your team as a team parent, our actions will define the AYSO
Culture in our region. We are all responsible for striving to
achieve this common vision, not just the Coach.
AYSO's Mission is "To develop and deliver quality youth soccer
programs in a FUN, FAMILY environment based on the AYSO
philosophies." This is "How" we do soccer the AYSO way.
Coaches, Players, Referees, and Parents have important roles to
carry out each of the 6 philosophies. The key here, Parents, is
that WE are ALL responsible for creating the AYSO Culture. If
we make conscious decisions in how we take part in establishing
model behavior for our region, ALL our lives will be enriched, not
just our children's.
