The Arizona Association of Latino Administrators
and Superintendents (AZALAS) is providing five
scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
The scholarships are $1,000.00 each and available to students who will be attending a higher institution of post-secondary education during the
2015-2016 school year. Applicants must meet the
following criteria:

Be a graduating high school/charter school
senior in Arizona.
One parent must be of Hispanic heritage.
Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
The Arizona Association of Latino Administrators
and Superintendents Scholarship Committee directs all decisions regarding scholarship awards.
Applicants are evaluated on quantitative and qualitative criteria, including academic achievement,
extra- curricular activities and student essays.
Scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of
the Committee and are contingent upon high
school graduation, as well as, acceptance to a
higher institution of post-secondary education.
NOTE: Incomplete application packages will
not be accepted.
For scholarship consideration, please submit all of
the following documents:
1. Completed scholarship application form.
2. One letter of recommendation from a school
counselor, teacher, coach, minister or other
school official.
3. A typewritten essay (500 words or less) on a
separate sheet of paper. The essay must be
written in the applicant’s own words and elaborate on the following:
How has your Latino heritage influenced your
life’s goals, mission and desire to make a positive impact in your environment?
4. Submit an official high school transcript.
5. Submit the post-secondary acceptance letter.

The Dr. Alejandro Perez Scholarship is funded by donations from various activities sponsored by the organization. The Dr. Alejandro Perez Scholarship is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are
prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. Applicants for the Dr. Alejandro Perez Scholarship may be eligible to receive a scholarship of up to $5,000.00 for school tuition and supplies. Selection of
scholarship recipients is competitive.
The Dr. Alejandro Perez Scholarship Committee selects recipients based on the three-tiered eligibility criteria
described below. Applications must be completed and returned to the Dr. Alejandro Perez Scholarship Committee P.O. Box 18271 Phoenix, Arizona 85005 and postmarked by April 20, 2015. Applicants will be notified
of the Committee’s decision by April 30, 2014. The Scholarship award will be applied directly to the recipients’ tuition accounts (or check mailed/given to the recipient).

THREE TIERED ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
TIER 1 - Eligibility to Receive Application
Students who meet all three criteria listed below will be considered for the Dr. Alejandro Perez Scholarship
and will be sent an announcement and application. Please note that the information submitted will be verified.
 Applicant must be in a Master’s or Doctorate Degree program and pursuing a degree or certification in
education administration at a post-secondary institution in Arizona.
 Applicant must possess a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Applicant must be 21 or older to apply for scholarship.
TIER 2 - Application Process Requirements
Applicants must complete the application form and submit to Dr. Alejandro Perez Committee by April 15,
2015. The following steps must be completed for application to be accepted.
 Applicant must submit an essay with his/her application. See attached application form for more information on the essay. Please note that the essay is a critical component of the selection process.
 Applicant must submit a vita/resume with his/her application.
 Applicant must submit a current job description with his/her application.
 Applicant must submit three letters of recommendation with his/her application.
 Applicant must submit a copy of his/her post-secondary school transcript.
Academic performance and consistency will be a factor in the selection process.
TIER 3 - Eligibility Verification
Scholarship awards will be conferred when the following conditions are verified.
Post-secondary school verifies that student has been accepted or is enrolled full-time.

The Ben Barcon Scholarship is funded by donations from various activities sponsored by the organization. The
Ben Barcon Scholarship is designed to increase the number of educators who serve in Latino communities in the
state of Arizona and are pursuing a doctorate degree.
Applicants for the Ben Barcon Scholarship may be eligible to receive a scholarship of up to $5,000.00 for
school tuition and supplies.
Selection of scholarship recipients is competitive. The expectation is that the recipient is a member of AZALAS
and will participate in the AZALAS Annual Conference for the following year (i.e. sit on a committee or present
at the conference) and be an active member of AHSAA. The Ben Barcon Scholarship Committee selects recipients based on the two-tiered eligibility criteria described below. Applications must be completed and returned

Applicant must submit evidence of enrollment in a doctoral program.
