The Human Rights Clinic of Azim Premji University invites you for a workshop “Urban Street Vending – Challenges and Laws” Date: May 6, 2015 (Wednesday) Time: 11.00 am to 3.30 pm Venue: Seminar Hall, 10th Floor, Pixel A, Azim Premji University About the Workshop The workshop intends to increase awareness and sensitize all stakeholders on the issues that are faced by street vendors in Bangalore. The recent Street Vendors' (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation) Act of 2014 has generated curiosity among the people working on the issue. But, the street vendors themselves are unaware of the nitty gritties of the Act, which is not just laden with shortcomings, but the efforts of the State in implementing it looks inadequate. We will, as part of the workshop, highlight these grey areas and dialogue on the ways to overcome them. The workshop is aimed at street vendors, and we will see the presence of about 25 vendors who are vending in the areas around Electronic City. There will also be representatives from the Street Vendors' Federation in Bangalore. Shaktimaan Ghosh of National Hawkers' Federation, Prof Abhayraj Naik from Azim Premji University, an advocate from Alternative Law Forum and a representative from BBMP or the Directorate of Municipal Administration will be speaking on the various legal, social, economic and political aspects of street vending during the workshop. We would very much like it if you could participate in the workshop to contribute a little bit of yourself as solidarity towards the street vendors' fight for protection of their livelihood.
