Nominations sought for Board
The Badger Region is seeking
eligible and interested members
to serve on our Board of Directors! We are a registered 501c3
non-profit with a 13-member
board, with four seats up for
re-election this year:
Vice President, Northwest
Representative, Southwest Representative and At-Large.
To serve on the board, you
must be a member of the Badger
Region. Our board currently consists of coaches, club
directors, officials, parents and
spectators – with some members
wearing several different hats!
Candidates for the Vice
President position must have
previously served on the Board.
Candidates for the Southwest
and Northwest Rep positions
must live in that area of the state.
Anyone 18 or over who did not
play on a junior club volleyball
team during the 2014-15 season
may run for the At-Large Representative position.
The Badger Region Board of
Directors meets four times per
year, normally meeting at the
Region office in Pewaukee, Wis.
For all of the position qualifications and guidelines, please
see the Badger Region by-laws,
found on the website at www.
BadgerVolleyball.org under the
About section. Please contact
Jennifer Armson-Dyer with any
questions about the elections.
Self-nominations are accepted
and encouraged!
To apply for one of the four
Board positions up for election,
please fill out the form at
http://badgervolleyball.org/
board-of-directors/badger-region-board-of-directors-position-application/
The deadline for applications is
5:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday, April
29. The election period is May 1
to May 10, 2015. Election winners
will be announced by May 13.
The next Badger Region board
meeting is Monday, June 8 at
5:30 p.m. CT.
Region members earn 30 under 30 award
The American Volleyball
Coaches Association presented its
annual Thirty Under 30 awards on
Wednesday,
April 8.
This year,
two Badger
Region members received
the honor:
Chris Brandt
and Lisa
Pierce
Chris Brandt
Brandt is
the head coach for the boys Badger
Region High Performance team
that will compete at the HP Championships at the end of July. During
the year, the 26-year-old is the head
men’s and assistant women’s volleyball coach at Lakeland College in
Howards Grove, Wis.
During his tenure at Lakeland,
Brandt has turned the team from a
college club program to an NCAA
varsity program, all while increasing the team’s cumulative GPA
from 2.73 to 3.15.
Brandt credits his mom
with getting
him his start in
the sport.
“My mom
coached me
through elementary and
junior high
Lisa Pierce
years before
introducing me to club volleyball.
She always encouraged me to play
multiple sports growing up, which
taught me a lot about athleticism,
discipline, and time management,”
he said.
Pierece is in her second year at
Milwaukee Sting Volleyball Club,
where she serves as the recruiting
coordinator/member development
and services coordinator and 15
Gold Coach.
What got the 27-year-old into
coaching?
“In all honesty, I am a gym rat. I
never intended to get into coaching, but I had to take stop playing
due to some injuries so I was
fortunate enough to be the student
assistant my last season at Purdue. I
just loved being on the other side of
the game,” she wrote.
This award was created to honor
thirty of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in
the sport at all levels of the game.
Although anyone can make a nomination, the nominee has to be an
AVCA member.
The inaugural Thirty Under
30 class was announced in the
February/March 2009 edition of
Coaching Volleyball.

year’s list, go to http://avca.org/

TEAM OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to this week’s
Team of the Week, Midwest Penguins
17-1s. The Penguins earned a bid at
the Badger Region Qualifier and will
be participating in the USA Volleyball
Jr. National Championships this summer in New Orleans, Louisiana. Their
bid was for the American Division.
The week prior the team competed in
the Mideast Qualifier in Indianapolis,
Indiana dropping only a single match
throughout the weekend to finish in
a tie for 5th place. To nominate your
team for Team of the Week, send
information to Ryan Thompson at
[email protected]
Try a passers vs. servers drill at your next practice
Austin Performance Volleyball Club runs this
passers vs. servers drill because it helps players focus
on minimizing errors.
Players split into a team of servers and another of
passers. The serving team tries to tally 10 aces before
the passers get 40 good passes.
The goal is not passing or serving accuracy. Its real
purpose is to reduce errors, either from missing serves
or getting aced. Three over-passed balls gets recorded
as an ace for the serving team. Three missed serves
counts as a good pass for the passing team. An imperfect pass is simply a wash.
To use this drill in your practice gym, check out the
video for additional pointers on setup and implementation: http://www.theartofcoachingvolleyball.com/passers-vs-servers-drill/?ap_id=BadgerRegionVB

Over the past 17
weeks, the Badger
Region Beacon has
taken time and space to
promote the USA Volleyball SafeSport program.
Through the 17 weeks,
we have talked about
sexual abuse, physical
abuse, emotional abuse,
bullying and hazing.
This week will be the
final installment of our
SafeSport series until
we start them over again
in the fall with the start
of a new club volleyball
season.
In the meantime, don’t
forget: USA Volleyball
requires the reporting of
sexual misconduct by
or of any member and
strongly encourages reporting of any concerns
related to SafeSport.
USA Volleyball appreciates your willingness
to report inappropriate
behavior.
Out of respect for the
importance of this issue
and to encourage honest
and effective reporting,
knowingly making a
false or vindictive report
will not be tolerated and
may be a violation of
USA Volleyball’s Code of
Conduct.
To report abuse, call
1-855-306-7775 or fill
out the USA Volleyball
SafeSport Abuse Reporting Form available
through usavolleyball.org

Badger Region teams dominate
college club nationals April 9-11
Badger Region teams dominated the
college club volleyball championships
held April 9-11 in Kansas City, Mo.
There, 28 teams from the state of Wisconsin competed in the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation tournament
organized under the USA Volleyball
umbrella.
Of those 28 teams, three won national
titles and three others took second in
their respective brackets.
In the highly competitive Men’s Division 1 tournament, the University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh repeated as national
champions, and Waukesha native Travis
Hudson was named tournament MVP
for the second year in a row.
John Jablonoski, a Franklin High
School graduate was named tournament
MVP in Men’s Division 2, leading the
Eagles of the University of Wisconsin-La
Crosse to their third title in four years.
Also winning its bracket was the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s team, who took home the trophy
in Women’s Division 1AAA. Brianna
Neumeyer, and outside hitter for the
Warhawks, was named MVP.
Second places
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside
men’s team, in the program’s first ever
trip to a national tournament, brought
second place medals back to Kenosha in
the Division 1AAA bracket.
In Men’s Division 3, the University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh B squad took home
second place after falling to a very physical University of Arizona B team.
And in the Women’s Division 2 bracket, the University of Wisconsin-La
Crosse could not match their men’s
team success, as they fell to Butler in the
championship.
Winona State, a team that competes
in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference, took home second in the Women’s
D1AAA tournament.
The NCVF and USA Volleyball recently announced that the 2016 championships will be hosted in Louisville,
Kentucky.

or indoors at camps.
Beach Program
Our beach program is designed to teach
and train the skills required to be successful
at the game of sand doubles. Both beginner and
advanced training available based on the age and
experience. Our coaches will keep the focus on training with high repetition, fun and challenging drills with
game like situations to develop the all around player.
Program open to all players from any club —girls ages 11 up
to 18, looking to learn or improve their knowledge and skills in
the game of sand doubles. Sand is a great way to improve
ball control and court awareness and will significantly translate to success in the indoor game.
Some volleyball experience
is recommended but
not required.
