PRESIDENT’S PEN:
Here we are, looking at another Spring
Convention. The schedule this year
filled up pretty fast so I’m hoping this
is a good sign that folks are excited.
We are also planning our 25th
anniversary celebration coming up on
May 30th. It’s going to be a busy year
for us. I also want to welcome aboard
our new members of the BAGMA
team. David Currey is our new Vice
President. Our new Board member is
Chuck Isaac. We are proud to have
these folks and most important to me
is the fact that they are excited about
serving. Folks, all God asks is that we
are ready and willing to serve. Even
when you’re not sure where it will
take you, remember God never puts
you where you don’t belong. The
addition of these new people means
that we had to lose the folks who
previously held those offices. I want
to thank Joe and JoAnn Kotal, and
Rich Arnhart. They are a treasure to
us and we thank them for serving and
giving of themselves so willingly. As
always, please remember to pray for
them that God would meet their needs
and give them good health.
I’ve had the privilege to serve with a
lot of fine folks in this association and
it has enriched my life as a result. The
Bible says in 1 John 4:7 “Dear
friends, let us love one another for
love comes from God. Everyone who
loves has been born of God and knows
God.” As Christians, we should have
a clear understanding of what love is.
Not love as seen by the eyes of the
world, but a love that is real and
compassionate. It seems to be rare
any more, even in our churches today.
I read recently where a woman in
Georgia who had been married to her
husband for 60 years was asked for
her best relationship advice. She said,
“Don’t be afraid to be the one who
loves the most. Don’t keep track.
Don’t compare. Just love the most.”
Well said! Be real and I’ll see you
soon.
Keep looking up,
Bro. Ray

SOUTHERN GOSPEL
Lou Wills Hildreth
We join you in thanking God for
warmer weather, especially for many
of our Southern Gospel traveling
ministries who have had major
problems with ice and snow across the
nation. Just about the only travel
concern in this area is the heavy traffic
in places. Howard no longer drives at
night, and we miss seeing our
BAGMA friends at the showcases and
personal appearances. We are
planning on being at the Spring
Convention. We were so thankful to
have our son-in-law take us to the
Gaither Vocal Band concert here in
Houston a few weeks ago.
We
arrived early, at the invitation of Bill
Gaither, and enjoyed an unforgettable
visit with him.
His assistant, our
longtime friend Deana Warren, was
more than helpful, knowing that we
are somewhat more fragile these days.
Hanging out in the comfort of the
hospitality room allowed us precious
time of fellowship with Bill and the
Gaither entourage-- David Phelps,
Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, Kevin
Williams, Gene McDonald, Matthew
Holt, Greg & Charlotte Ritchie. We
met Todd Suttles, new member of the
GVB, and found him to be gracious
and lots of fun.
He is genuinely
excited to be singing Southern Gospel
music. Howard and I have a deep
appreciation for Bill Gaither, and we
were extremely blessed to be at this
memorable concert!!
We were also privileged to attend
David and Dana Hancock’s concert
series “Singin’ In Texas” at Sagemont
Church in Houston. The huge crowd
responded to the fantastic talent lineup
with great enthusiasm. A couple from
West University Baptist Church where
Howard and I are members, Paul and
Willene Gutenberger, drove us to this
event. They are regular attendees to
gospel music events, and the four of
us enjoyed the concert from the front
row, thanks to Dana Hancock’s
hospitality. When Frank Seamans,
formerly of Legacy Five, led us in the
opening song, I knew we were at the
right place. Frank and his wife,
Libby, pastor Freedom Fellowship in
Pearland, and he sings as fabulous as
always.
A sweet surprise was a
piano solo by a longtime friend from
Dallas, maestro of the keyboards T.
Bob Davis. At the concert, we made
some great new friends who share our
love for gospel music. I had heard
good reports about “The Old Paths”
but had not heard them in person, and
their performance was great, with
strong testimonies.
This Southern
Gospel male quartet gained many fans
on their tour thru Texas, and we
welcome them back soon.
The
Hoppers are loved everywhere, and
certainly added their sweet spirit to the
concert. Connie was not able to make
the trip, but Claude entertained the
crowd with his classic humor. A spirit
of agreement swept the audience at
Sagemont
as
David
Hancock
introduced “The Erwins” with his
comments urging everyone to support
all upcoming young gospel artists.
Without a doubt, the Erwins, three
young brothers and their teenage
sister, sang their way into the hearts of
the people. We pray God’s continued
blessing on this talented young family
on their journey to national
recognition. At the end of the concert,
we were thrilled to visit with many of
our BAGMA friends, Nelda and JC
Johnson, and several others. Howard
and I love all of you and think of you
as family. We close with a dedication
to the memory of Mosie Lister who
died February 12, 2015, at age 93.
Mosie wrote “How Long Has It Been”
– “Where No One Stands Alone” –
“Til The Storm Passes By” and many
other beloved gospel songs.

and 3 grandchildren. We attend
Garden Rd. Baptist Church in
Pearland, Texas. My husband serves
as a deacon at this church where we
have been going to for at least 33
years.
We both sing in our church choir,
and I personally have been singing
ever since I was very young in school
and church choirs. I truly believe that
God has called us to sing the gospel.
My husband has recently joined me
in singing We love singing the
message in the song.. I was very
thankful to God for this answered
prayer. We love when we are called
to sing either at another church or a
nursing home or a funeral for one
who has gone to be with the Lord.
So please keep us in mind, we
would love to come to your church to
sing God’s praises. We love to be
around other people who love the
Lord as we do. I guess you could say
we are baby BAGMA members since
we have only been members for 2
years. We have met the sweetest
group of people ever. We enjoy
singing in the showcase and love to
hear others sing as well.
We are so excited about Jesus and

Dear BAGMA Members:
In June of this year, we will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Bay Area Gospel Music Association. We
have planned a wonderful banquet for all of our members and friends. We wanted to get these plans to you
and all those who might want to attend. The 25th Anniversary Banquet will be held on Saturday, May 30,
2015 at Del Sol Banquet Hall at 8118 Park Place, Houston, TX 77017. It is located across the I-45
freeway from the Kelley's Restaurant on Park Place. The time will be 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. There is plenty
of parking in the rear (where the entrance is located) and we will have security as well. The food comes
highly recommended. The tickets will be $10.00 per person. The menu is authentic Mexican food including
beef and chicken fajitas, rice, refried or charro beans, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, pico de gallo, grilled
onions, green and red salsa, jalapeno peppers, chips & sauce, corn & flour tortillas, and iced tea or water.
We would like everyone to help us celebrate this wonderful event so bring your friends and family
members. Del Sol management will need a confirmed count of guests prior to the event in order to prepare a
sufficient amount of food. Therefore, we are required to pay in advance, so please complete the order form
below and let us know how many tickets you want. You can send the order form and a check or money
order for the correct amount (no cash should be sent through the mail) to Bay Area Gospel Music
Association: P.O. Box 262428, Houston, TX 77207-2428.
