According to a Rank the Bank report from Banks Street
Partners, an investment bank based in Atlanta, three
Birmingham banks rank among the top 10 in the state in
overall performance.
First Partners Bank ranked third, while Oakworth Capital
Bank and ServisFirst Bank ranked seventh and eighth,
respectively. The data used to rank the banks was based
on the first quarter data from 2015.
Cheaha Bank, based in Oxford, ranked first. Regions
Bank, Birmingham's largest bank, ranked 34th.
This report takes five different metrics and equally weighs each metric and then provides a
state-by-state ranking of the Top 50 banks per state for Q1, 2015. The five metrics used to
measure each bank are net interest margin, non-Interest income, overhead, asset quality
and return on average equity.
First Partners CEO Elam Holley said he credits his bank's high ranking to its core
principles.
"Traditional banking principles continue to be important to our success," Holley said.
"Including credit quality and cost controls. We believe in partnership banking. This belief
is at the core of everything we do. Our customer’s success is our success. You succeed, we
succeed."
Many of the city's most successful banks, including Oakworth Capital and ServisFirst, have
attributed their success to personal service and value in relationships.
