• Before cutting border strips, measure your quilt top through the middle, both ways, to determine the exact border length.
Measurements are given, however, your quilt may differ slightly in size. Press seams toward the border.
Cutting Requirements and Construction are for Blue quilt. To make
the Red quilt, substitute the corresponding fabric in ( ).
Cutting for the Blue Quilt (59” x 71”)
4. Place a dog panel block on the center of each 4-patch block.
Cut out 12 panel blocks, leaving a 1/4” seam allowance around
each

of all 12 blocks. Press seams toward the sashing.

(11) 1 ½” x wof strips, cut into:
(31) 1 ½” x 11 ½” strips for sashing
7. To make sashing rows, alternate (4) 1 ½” red houndstooth
squares and (3) 1 ½” x 11 ½” sashing pieces. Press toward the
sashing strips. Make 5 rows.
Red Houndstooth 7634-88
(1) 1 ½” x wof strip, cut into:
(20) 1 ½” squares for posts
(7) 2 ½” x wof strips pieced together end to end for binding
Cream Snowflakes 7632-44 (Cream Spots 7635-44)
(5) 2 ½” x wof strips, pieced into:
(2) 2 ½” x 49 ½” strips (1st inner border sides)
(2) 2 ½” x 41 ½” strips (1st inner border top & bottom)
(Save remainder for snowflakes)
Blue Characters 7631-11 (Red Characters 7631-88)
(5) 3 ½” x wof strips, pieced into:
(2) 3 ½” x 53 ½” strips (2nd inner border sides)
(2) 3 ½” x 47 ½” strips (2nd inner border top & bottom)
Red Holly 7636-88 Cream Holly (7636-44)
(6) 1 ½” x wof strips, pieced into:
(2) 1 ½” x 59 ½” strips (3rd Inner border sides)
(2) 1 ½” x 49 ½” strips (3rd Inner border top & bottom)
Blue Houndstooth 7634-77 (Green Holly 7636-66)
(6) 5 ½” x wof strips, pieced into:
(2) 5 ½” x 61 ½” strips (Outer border sides)
(2) 5 ½” x 59 ½” strips (Outer border top & bottom)
Quilt Top Assembly
1. Sew a 6” Navy Snowflakes square to a 6” Light Blue
Snowflakes square. Repeat to make 24 sets.
2. Sew (2) sets together to create a 4-patch block. Make 12.
The blocks measure 11 ½” unfinished.
3. Press under ¼” seam allowance on 12 dog panel blocks.
8. Sew the rows of blocks and sashing strips together, starting
with a sashing row.
Borders
For all borders, add the sides borders first and then the top and
bottom. Press seams toward the borders.
First Inner Border - Cream Snowflakes (Cream Spots)
Sides: 2 ½” x 49 ½” strips
Top & Bottom: 2 ½” x 41 ½” strips
Second Inner Border - Blue Characters (Red Characters)
Sides: 3 ½” x 53 ½” strips
Top & Bottom: 3 ½” x 47 ½” strips
Third Inner Border - Red Holly (Cream Holly)
Sides: 1 ½” x 59 ½” strips
Top & Bottom: 1 ½” x 49 ½” strips
Outer Border - Blue Houndstooth (Green Holly)
Sides: 5 ½” x 61 ½” strips
Top & Bottom: 5 ½” x 59 ½” strips
Snowflakes
1. Use the appliqué method of your choice. Trace the snowflake
point (on next page) onto template plastic. If you plan
to turn under the edges, add a seam allowance. Follow
manufacturer’s instructions for fusible webbing.
2. Transfer snowflake point outline to paper side of fusible
webbing. Cut around shapes and fuse to the wrong side of
the fabric. Repeat for 36 snowflake points.
3. Arrange snowflakes as shown on the quilt picture, remove
paper backing and fuse in place. Stitch around the points.
Layer, quilt and bind.

Cutting for the Banner

7632-11 Light Blue Snowflakes
(6) 1 ½” x wof strips
Set aside (2) strips for strip sets to make 4-patch units. Cut remaining strips into:
(40) 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles for flying geese units
Flying Geese Units
1. Draw a line from corner to corner on the wrong side of
(2) 1 ½” Navy Snowflakes squares.
2. With right sides together, place one square on one end of a
1 ½” x 2 ½” Light Blue Snowflakes rectangle.
3. Sew on the drawn line. Trim corner away and press toward
the center.
7633-77 Blue Stripe
(2) 2 ½” x 30 ½” strips for top & bottom outer border
(2) 2 ½” x 43 ½” strips for sides of second inner border
(4) 2 ½” x 30 ½” strips for top & bottom of second inner border
Make 4
4. Repeat on the other end of the rectangle. This will create a
1 ½” x 2 ½” flying geese unit. Make 4.
(5) 2 ½” x wof strips pieced together end to end for binding
Assemble the Star Block

(2) 1” x 30 ½” strips for top & bottom borders

(4) 1 ½” squares for center of star blocks

Join a flying geese unit to a 2” x 2 ½” Navy Snowflakes A
rectangle. Make 2.
Join a flying geese unit to a 1 ½” x 2 ½” Navy Snowflakes B
rectangle. Make 2.
Sew a 1” x 1 ½” Navy Snowflakes C rectangle to both sides of a
1 ½” Cream Holly square. Arrange block as shown with Cream
Holly 4-patch units and sew together.

(3) 1 ½” x wof strips. Set aside (2) strips for 4-patch units.
Cut remaining strip into:
(6) 1 ½” squares for centers of star blocks.
From the following 5 fabrics:

From Each cut:
(1) 1 ½” x wof strip, cut into:
(16) 1 ½” squares for flying geese units
(8) 1” x 1 ½” C rectangles
(1) 2 ½” x wof strip, cut into:
(8) 2” x 2 ½” A rectangles
(8) 1 ½” x 2 ½” B rectangles
Star Blocks - 6 ½” unfinished. Make 10.
4-patch Units
1. Sew a 1 ½” Light Blue Snowflakes strip to a 1 ½” Cream
Spots strip. Make 2. Subcut into (48) 1 ½” sections.
2. Sew a 1 ½” Light Blue Snowflakes strip to a 1 ½” Cream
Holly strip. Make 2. Subcut into (32) 1 ½” sections.
1 ½”
Make 2. The block measures 6 ½” unfinished.
Make 2 more blocks with Cream Holly 4-patch units and Green
Spots.
Make 6 blocks with Cream Spots 4-patch units and:
• Red Snowflakes (Make 2)
• Red Holly (Make 2)
• Green Holly (Make 2)
Use picture of the banner as a guide and sew 2 rows of 5 blocks.
Banner Assembly
Press border seams toward the borders.
1. Sew 2” x 40 ½” Cream Snowflakes to each side of the panel.
2. Sew 2” x 26 ½” Cream Snowflakes to the top and bottom of
the panel.
3. Sew 2 ½” x 43 ½” Blue Houndstooth to each side.
4. Sew 2 ½” x 30 ½” Blue Houndstooth to the top and bottom.
5. Sew a Star Block Row to the top and bottom.
6. Add 2 ½” x 30 ½” Blue Houndstooth to the top and bottom.
7. Add 1” x 30 ½” Red Houndstooth to the top and bottom.
8. Add 2 ½” x 30 ½” Blue Stripe to the top and bottom.
Layer, quilt and bind with 2 ½” Green Houndstooth.
3. Make (24) 4-patch units from Cream Spots sections.
4. Make (16) 4-patch units from Cream Holly sections.
