YEAR 5 & 6 SUMMER TERM
2015 CURRICULUM
MAIN TOPIC: VIKINGS AND SAXONS
Science
This challenging topic will get children
thinking about characteristics passed from
one generation to the next and how species have adapted to suit their environments. We will go on to briefly explore
the process of natural selection, and how
our understanding of the process of evolution has developed over time thanks to
the work of scientists and palaeontologists
Literacy
We will be immensely busy this term. We
shall continue to improve our detective
skills when reading and analysing texts.
Furthermore, we will be revising lots of
writing genres including narrative, report,
argument, persuasive and lots more! Post

and drama activities in readiness for our

Get together with a group of friends to
write a short playscript which could be
presented in a KS2 assembly. What could
the theme be and how will you make sure
your audience is kept entertained?
ART
Our Art topic will be ‘embroidery’ so why
not research the Bayeux Tapestry and find
an interesting way to present the information to the rest of the class.
HOMEWORK GALLERY
The homework suggestions on this page
are optional, however it is expected that
your child completes at least one activity
each half term.
If the topic captures
your child/children’s imagination encourage them to try one of the activities or a
mini project of their own.
The deadline for these optional homework
activities is 15th May for this half term
and 10th July for the second half of the
term.
This will allow for children to
share their activities with others.
ICT
Use ICT to create a fact file about the
Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. You may
want to design a ‘Quiz’ using Power
Point which includes hyperlinks to the
correct answers - similar to the ‘Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire’ quizzes.
REMINDER—WEEKLY HOMEWORK
Spelling is set on Monday to be returned on
Friday.
Maths and English set on Friday to
be returned the following Wednesday. It is expected that all children complete homework given, however if difficulties arise please speak to
