Together, they set out on a journey of redemption, seeking to avenge Isaac’s death. Long Synopsis Arcayus lives a solitary life a corner of the Wasteland, and he wants to keep it that way. His brother Isaac’s departure over a decade ago caused great conflict between them. Despite having fought alongside each other in the Tribe of Legion since childhood, Isaac’s choice of a life of violence and desperation is one that Arcayus has never understood. But Arcayus’ illusions of a peaceful life are shattered when Rose arrives on his doorstep. Exhausted but determined, Rose has been raised by Isaac since childhood, and drags with her a huge makeshift cart, laden with Isaac’s body. Rose has a clear goal. Together, they must journey through the Wasteland to track down Isaac’s killers and avenge his death – but Arcayus wants no part in it. In a world where men have become savages, Rose knows she will never find revenge alone, and circumstances drive the two unlikely allies together. But Rose knows more about Isaac’s death than she’s letting on, and her secret could tear them apart. Episode Synopses Isaac & Rose [13:22] After witnessing the murder of her family, seven-year-old Rose ventures out into the Wasteland alone. Woken one night to the sound of nearby movement, she discovers Isaac, a rogue panda who abandoned his home - and last surviving brother - to explore new territories. Arcayus & Rose [16:08] After Isaac’s murder, Rose tracks down his reclusive estranged brother, Arcayus, and begs him to help her seek revenge. Having lived in solitude in a corner of the Wasteland for over 15 years, Arcayus has no desire to return to his former life of violence, but reluctantly agrees to accompany her as far as the town of Raven. Arcayus & Akira [8:35] Soon after departing Edgar’s house, Arcayus is caught by the Coyotes and sold to The Winchester Vault Pit. Forced to fight for the entertainment of others, he meets Akira, a 6ft bison who has lived his life within the fight pit walls. Confronted by this fate, Arcayus knows his only hope is Rose. But first he must battle to survive. FAQ How did you come up with the idea for Wastelander Panda? Co-creators Victoria Cocks and Marcus McKenzie came up with the idea for Wastelander Panda in a university lecture. Victoria is a huge fan of video games, and wanted to translate the idea of a huge, explorable world to film. The name ‘Wastelander Panda’ came from Marcus rhyming the two words together, and was a joke at first, but became more serious over time. How did Arcayus come to be featured in the Borderlands 2 video game? Arcayus was featured as an easter egg in the video game Borderlands 2, after Victoria emailed Gearbox Software to ask whether she could feature the DAHL logo in the fight pit in the Arcayus & Akira episode. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford loved the Wastelander Panda Prologue, and not only agreed to the use of the DAHL logo, but offered to put Arcayus in the Borderlands 2 in exchange. How was Wastelander Panda funded? The Wastelander Panda Prologue was created after Victoria received a Helpmann Academy grant. The three new Wastelander Panda episodes and website were initially funded through a crowd funding campaign on pozible.com. With a target of $25,000, the team went on to raise $25,225 from 353 supporters – a record for a film project on Pozible at the time. Carclew Youth Arts and the South Australian Film Corporation also contributed to the project. Wastelander Panda was the first project in Australia to be funded by a government film agency without a traditional market attachment (e.g. distributor or broadcaster). FAQ Where was Wastelander Panda filmed? Wastelander Panda’s exterior landscape scenes were shot in South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, while the scenes in abandoned buildings and at the scrapyard were shot in and around Adelaide. Who created the animal heads? Arcayus, Isaac and Akira’s animal heads were designed and created by Lionel Vogt at Lion of the Sun Productions: http://www.lionofthesun.com.
