Community Voice—Young Adult Carers Group
Theatre trip
During February half term our Young Adult Carers got a treat by getting the opportunity to go to Cardiff to have a
break from their demanding caring roles. Six of our Young Adult Carers had a lovely meal at the Glassworks
restaurant in Cardiff City Centre and then went off to the New Theatre to watch an excellent performance of ‘Twelve
Angry Men’. We all had a wonderful time! If you would like to find out more about the Young Adult Carer Voice Group
please contact Rhian Bennett on 07718 244087 or email [email protected] . Like us on Facebook
‘Bridgend Young Adult Carer Voice Group’.
Carers Trust About Time Programme Guiders
Two of our Young Adult Carers have been lucky enough to be chosen to be About Time Programme Guiders for
Carers Trust. This is a two year project that allows Young Adult Carers to assess grant applications that will affect
the lives of young carers across the UK. Our two Young Adult Carers attended a training weekend at The Wellington
Academy in Wiltshire where they were trained in grant decision making and public speaking. The weekend was fun,
interesting and exhausting! We are looking forward to attending our next weekend away in May where we will get to
assess our first round of applications.
Community Voice Young Adult Carer (YAC) Forum
The group has been busy over the past few months with lots of activities going on. In February half term our young
adult carers had a wonderful trip to Cardiff to see the show ‘Twelve Angry Men’. We also held a Mindfulness course,
continued with our peer mentoring and carried out consultations on the benefits of a young carers ID card which is
now in the process of being created. Two of our YACs attended a residential to be trained as programme guiders for
Carers Trust and two of our YACs attended a young carers training morning for members in BCBC. The Young Adult
Carer Voice group takes place on the first Tuesday of every month. The next group will take place on 5 th May 2015
from 5pm – 7pm. Davina will be available from 4pm to offer one to one support. For further information about the
group please contact Rhian Bennett on 07718244087 or email [email protected].

‘SALMON FISHING IN THE YEMEN’ stars Ewan McGregor as Fred Jones, a fisheries expert who
is approached by Harriet (Emily Blunt) with a plan to introduce salmon into the waterways of Yemen.
Despite Fred’s protests, he soon finds himself working on a project that seems not only frivolous but absolutely
unfeasible in the arid land of Yemen. Yet as the mission begins, they find that hope can spring—even in the most
unexpected places!
Why not come along to watch this amazing tale of overcoming the odds? Suggested donation £3.00

Our aim is to get one to one advice and support as quickly as
possible to carers when and where they need it.
To access this service you can ring for an appointment. Steve can
still meet you at the same venues or if it’s easier he will visit you
at home.

G.P. Awareness Raising in the Borough
Is your GP aware of your caring role? Paula is working with all
G.P’s in the Borough to ensure that all Carers are getting the
support they need from their G.P. Please let us know if you
think you are getting enough support from your practice.
A carer has recently forwarded this beautiful poem and asked
if we would put in our newsletter as it may help others.
Alzheimer’s Request
Do not ask me to remember
Don’t try to make me understand
Let me rest and know you’re with me
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand
I’m confused beyond your concept
I’m sad and sick and lost
All I know is that I need you
To be with me at all cost
Do not lose your patience with me
Do not scold or curse or cry
I can’t help the way I’m acting
I can’t be different even though I try
Just remember that I need you
That the best of me is gone
Please don’t fail to stand beside me
Love me til my life is gone

Tai-Chi Class
Every Thursday 1—2pm at the
Carers Centre. Come along and give it
a try. Suitable for men and women of
all ages and abilities.
Sun Style Tai Chi Chuan
This is a form of internal martial arts created by
Grand Master Sun Lu Tang.
It is the art of balance and the ability to stay balanced, this takes a lot of practise, to maintain
this you need to be fluid and relaxed. To do this
we address the body and mind, we initially discover, just how much tension we all hold onto,
in various parts of the body.
All people—men, women, old and young, may
practise this art and achieve a balanced state of
wholeness and wellbeing. The overall softness
and flow of movements, helps the flow of the Qi
which channels the internal energy.
To date we have been able to fully fund this
class but to continue to offer this we would like
to suggest a donation of £2.00 to attend
