Businesses will be contacting us from now until school starts in September.
Students interested in a co-op opportunity for the 2015-16 school year should see Mr. Clements as soon as possible.
There are two ways that students can find co-op opportunities:

interested in hiring a co-op. Mr. Clements will then follow up on the contact.

April 2015
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I do believe we’ve survived another extreme winter and certainly welcome the arrival of spring!
Change on State Assessment
Beginning in April, Michigan schools will begin administering a new statewide test called M-STEP (Michigan Student
Test of Educational Progress) to all 3rd-8th and 11th grade students. This new test was chosen by our state to replace
the MEAP test. There are several differences with this new test; the first big change is when the test is given. MEAP
tests were given in October and measured what was taught the previous school year. The new tests are given during
April/May measuring what was learned the current year. Since students won't have summer break and a month of the
new school year before testing, it should give a more accurate measure of content learned.
The next change is that M-STEP is aligned to our current state standards, so it better matches what we actually teach.
The MEAP was based on our previous state standards, which were replaced for Math and English in 2010. The
biggest change is that these new tests will be administered online. Each student will receive a unique one-time-use
code on testing day to access their test through a secure browser application installed on a district computer or
Chromebook.
While online testing is new for us, there are many potential advantages. Because items are pulled randomly from an
item bank in real time, each student receives a unique test. That allows us to be more flexible in when we administer
the test. We have a 3-week window for each grade level to complete testing. Previously, students took the same test
on the same day at the same time. Online testing allows for interactive and more complex questions to measure
deeper understanding of concepts rather than a simple multiple-choice test.
Eventually, these online tests will even be able to "adapt" items up or down based on student responses to provide an
accurate measure of student understanding above or below grade level instead of simply whether they meet the
standards or not. This data will be helpful in designing courses to better meet students' individual learning needs.
Finally, the data will be returned to schools much more quickly than before, allowing us to be more responsive in using
that data to guide instruction.
This first year of M-STEP testing will be new for everyone. Please encourage your child to do his or her best on the
tests, but not to unnecessarily stress over them. During testing, encourage your students to get plenty of rest, eat
breakfast (at home or at school), and do some sort of activity (outside if the weather allows) each evening to help them
reduce stress and stay mentally alert.
Congratulations
I like to dedicate a portion of my newsletter message to District accomplishments and would like to share these
