Executive Skills in Children and Adolescents: Interventions in
Educational Settings
The objectives of this seminar are to introduce educators to practical strategies that can be used
to teach and support the development of executive skills in children. This seminar will extend Dr.
Guare’s presentation made at POPARD’s conference in 2013.
Dr. Guare will first briefly review the executive skills model that he and his colleagues have developed for children
and adolescents. Following this, Dr. Guare will discuss the three key components of a model for intervention,
Environmental Modifications, Skills Instruction and Incentives. Building on these, he will present specific examples of
how each component can be used with children individually, in the classroom and on a class-wide basis.
Dr. Guare is a neuropsychologist and a BCBA-D. He has presented and published research and clinical work involving
attention, executive skills, and neurological disorders. He is co-author of the books, Executive Skills in Children and
