Information for WMIRA Championship Regatta Saturday, May 9, 2015 on the Anacostia River These detailed instructions should be provided to all coaches, parents and spectators participating in WMIRA. Items addressed in this document include parking, rower drop-off and pick-up, spectator location and transportation, team tent rules, and restroom facilities. Parking: Parking for ALL spectators, rowers, and COACHES will be available at the CSC (Maritime Plaza) building at the corner of 12 th and M streets, SE (GPS: 1201 M St SE, Washington, DC 20003). Regatta parking will be on the UPPER LEVEL ONLY. Parking is free and parking monitors will be present to assist. KEY INFORMATION: There is to be NO rower drop off at the Anacostia Community Boathouse (ACBA) and NO PARKING is allowed along Water or M streets, or anywhere along the route from Maritime Plaza to ACBA. Shuttle buses will be available throughout the day (from 6 AM until 4:30 PM) to transfer spectators to and from the Maritime Plaza parking area to the designated viewing area on the Anacostia Park side of the river. See attached map delineating WMIRA Activity Locations Three school buses will be running continuously from Maritime Plaza to Anacostia Park viewing area, with drop-off right next to team tents. Each trip is expected to take approximately 12 minutes. Spectators should allow 25 minutes after parking to be at the viewing area to ensure they do not miss their rower’s race. Rower Drop Off and Pick-Up: NO rower is to be driven to ACBA for drop-off. Rowers should be dropped off and picked up at the conclusion of the regatta at the Maritime Plaza parking area. Shuttles will be available throughout the day (from 6 AM until 4:30 PM) to transfer rowers to and from the Maritime Plaza parking area and the ACBA boathouse. ACBA access: Access to the ACBA boathouse along Water street and parking at or near the boathouse will be limited to: o Race Officials o Boat trailers and their tow vehicles. Boat trailers will park inside the ACBA gate (closest to the four porta johns) and line up perpendicular to the fence. o NO BOAT TRAILERS WILL BE PERMITTED INSIDE ACBA UNTIL SATURDAY MORNING. NO EXCEPTIONS. TRAILERS MAY BEGIN TO ARRIVE BY 6:00 AM ON SATURDAY MORNING. A VOLUNTEER WILL DIRECT TRAILERS INTO DESIGNATED PARKING SPOTS. If dropping off hospitality items for Referees and Judges, OR rower food, cars may briefly park OUTSIDE the ACBA lot, and carry items in. Strongly consider having 2-3 people available to unload and return to Maritime Plaza for parking. Monitors will be at ACBA to ensure no rowers, parents or spectators access the ACBA parking lot. Railroad tracks: COACHES: Keep all rowers and family members off and away from the railroad tracks. This is an active railway! Teams with rowers or family members caught on the railroad tracks will be immediately disqualified Spectator viewing and Team Tent area: All Spectators and Team Tents will be located on the river front in Anacostia Park (see map), across the river from ACBA. No team spectator tents will be allowed at ACBA or on the ACBA side of the river. Bus shuttles will be available throughout the day (from 6 AM until 4 PM) to transport spectators to and from the Maritime Plaza parking area to the Team Tent / Spectator area along the east bank of the Anacostia River between the 11 th street and Pennsylvania Avenue bridges. Drop off and pick-up of spectators at the Park area will take place at designated pull-off areas along Anacostia Drive, adjacent to the tent area. The finish line for the course will be located past the Team tent area (upriver) and will be open to all spectators. No tents, bleachers or other structures will be available or allowed at the finish line area to allow for open viewing by all spectators. There is a bike path that runs parallel to the river course, for anyone who chooses to ride/bring a bike to the Park and follow races down the course. Shuttle buses WILL NOT be able to accommodate bicycles. THERE WILL BE NO FOOD VENDORS/FOOD FOR SALE DURING THE REGATTA AT EITHER ACBA OR ANACOSTIA PARK. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY FOR YOUR ROWERS, COACHES AND SPECTATORS Team tents: Designated areas along the east bank of the Anacostia River will be marked and set aside for Team tents. Due to the permit granted by the National Park Service, it is important that ALL tents be placed in this designated area. Designated pull-off areas along Anacostia Drive next to the spectator viewing area will be reserved for the unloading and reloading of tents and supplies. In order to accommodate all teams for unloading and reloading, please ensure there are adequate numbers of team volunteers to assist when the team supplies arrive, to expedite the process and allow for the next team to unload. VEHICLES MAY NOT STOP ON ANACOSTIS DRIVE AND BLOCK TRAFFIC. The designated areas must be used; if the pull-off areas are full you when arrive, pull down to the Section E parking lot and wait 15 minutes before returning to unload. Once unloaded, team vans and their tow vehicles can be parked in double-length parking spaces at the parking lot associated with Section E of Anacostia Park. Access to this parking area is via the first right past the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge (when driving northeast along Anacostia drive). See map for more detail. Vans and tow vehicles can return to the loading/unloading area adjacent to the spectator viewing area at the end of the regatta to pick-up team tents and equipment. NO grills or cooking devices are permitted in the spectator viewing area in the Park. Prepared food only may be provided at Team tents. There will be NO sales of any t-shirts or other merchandise, as directed by National Park Service regulations. Teams are allowed to sell magnets and bumper stickers, should they choose to do so. Restroom facilities Rower restroom facilities at ACBA will include 12 portable bathrooms at two locations in the ACBA parking lot. 8 will be located closest to the boathouse, and 4 located just inside the gate to the parking lot to the right. Three portable bathrooms will be available for WMIRA spectators immediately adjacent to the Team tent area. In addition, there are public restrooms available a short walk away in the building adjacent to the Gazebo area located across Anacostia drive just before the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge. Spectator First Aid If any spectator experiences a medical emergency, 911 should be called. Two DC Park Police will be supporting this event on the Park side, and may be available for assistance.
