Wow, our 8th year!! THANKS for your support. Change is Good, so we have some great changes
this year. Remember… We will not mail your tickets, you will pick them up on the morning of your
first class. That means Friday, Saturday or Sunday. So everyone will have tickets for their classes
and no tickets will be lost!!! Remember, FREE PARKING at the hotel. Just tell them you are with
ETAC. Saturday expo hall hours are 8-6 and Sunday 8-5 pm. We will close one hour early on
Sunday and have our FREE give-a-ways at 4:30 pm.
For our first time ever, we will have our “$1000 Design Challenge”. The rules are simple. Take a
photo, print a photo, or bring in a copy from a magazine, of a retail garment or accessory item that
retails for over $1000. Be certain that the photo contains and visually shows the price of the item.
Make that garment or accessory item. Bring the photo and your copy of the item in the photo and
enter into our contest on Saturday at the Expo. All items must be entered in on Saturday by noon,
voting will take place from noon until 5 pm and one winner will be announced at that evening’s Design Challenge. Winner will be the one item that is voted “Best” by the majority of voters. Winner
will receive a NY Fabric buying trip (with Silhouette Patterns) PLUS $250. Cash. (Total Value of
prize is $550.) Only one winner. Everyone can participate and all participants of ETA can vote one
time. All entries will be displayed in the expo hall from noon until 5 pm on Saturday October 19,
2013. Start now, no need to tell us you are planning on entering, just make it great and win!!

This year, we will also continue our traditional design challenge that three women are participating
in. Please plan on attending and seeing what these women come up with. Specific location will be
posted Saturday at the expo. There is no charge to attend and CHOCOLATES will be served.
The Scenario: (Don’t miss seeing the results, Saturday, October 19th, 2013; 6-7 pm.)
You are attending a high school reunion a little over three months from now.
You are flying on a commercial airline to the reunion and only one carry-on bag allowed so all outfits must fit into the one carry-on bag. You will need three outfits and no one outfit can be repeated. These are the three events that you are going to attend.
First day - Friday night get-together/mixer.
Second day afternoon - “Memory Lane”
photo shoot (must dress in the clothing style
of the year you graduated.)
Second evening - Big Outdoor Dance/Dinner
The goal of this project is to have fun and
see where your imagination can lead. Have
fun and we are all anxious to see the results!!
Outfits will be presented Saturday, early
evening, at from 6-7 at the hotel.

3. Silhouette Patterns- Peggy Sagers
Fabric has been supplied from the above
names. Each of the designers received the
same yardage. The patterns are the Designer’s choice and come from the above
companies.
Rules you must incorporate:
1. One item you make from the fabrics must be
visibly worn at all three events
2. One item must be reversible.
We all love to stay at the hotel. It is relaxing, comfortable, and we can visit longer with new friends.
We have made a terrific effort to couple the hotel rooms with the conference, so you could just
enjoy the weekend and treat yourself to a little get-a-way.
3. Some of all the fabrics must be used.
4. An additional $25 can be spent and will be reimbursed for anything purchased such as additional
buttons, fabrics, etc.
5. All outfits must fit into the carry-on bag.
6. Patterns are free and unlimited from any one of
the sponsors and ordered through the designer.
Those patterns ordered must be used in the challenge. No other patterns may be used.
7. No additional fabric from personal stash allowed. Any notions may be used from your personal stash. Only an additional $25 can be spent
on anything you need. (see #4)

FREE PARKING will be available for all attendees, but you must let the parking attendant know
you are attending ETAC and have your ticket validated at the front desk of the hotel before
leaving the parking facility.
Sewing Machines:
If you are bringing a sewing machine, you may drop it off at the front of the hotel, then park, than
go back to the bellman and he will help you get you and your machine to your classroom. Please
leave some additional time to help all involved. If you are using your sewing machine for one or
several days, you may check in your machine at the ETA California registration desk and we will
keep it safely for you.

Take the MacArthur blvd, turn left and get on the 405 south, Exit at Jamboree Road and make a
left. Hotel is on the right.

Tired of ugly, uncomfortable, ill-fitting bras? Then this class is for you! With over 19 years experience in fit, design, and construction of bras, Monica O’Rourke Bravo will guide you on a journey
to creating your own beautiful bra. We will start with the basics of fit and each student will experience a personalized fitting session as you learn to analyze fit on each other. Using the results of
your fitting session, you will be guided to take a pattern and make the necessary adjustments to
customize it just for you. Next you will learn about fabrics and findings and, with your new custom-made pattern in hand, you will cut out your bra. Then it’s time to put it all together! Monica
will demonstrate the basics of construction, plus lots tips and tricks. You will leave class with your
pattern and enough materials for one bra.
Kit includes: multi-sized pattern, one basic bra kit (fabrics and findings)
Please bring glass head silk pins (NO quilting pins!), lightweight scissors or an 18mm rotary blade
and mat for fabric, paper scissors, a pencil, a measuring tape, and a small ruler.
2. Jan Bones - The Dress Form 9-4 pm $89. Kit fee $40.
Re-create your body in paper! This workshop is simply the best investment you can make for yourself. You will learn a fun, easy & inexpensive way to make your own Dress Form. You will complete all the steps needed to make a most valuable sewing & designing tool. Join this workshop &
see how Dress Form success is within your reach.
Participants will need to wear a good bra & panties (or the undergarments you most commonly
wear) when their form is being made.

their donations benefiting the Orangewood Children’s Home.
Come sit and sew with the newest, latest and greatest machines from All Brands.
Relax, sit and sew a portion of a blanket for charity. This will be easy and fun. Silhouettes is
donating fabrics for us to piece blankets together for Orangewood Children’s Home on sewing machines donated by All Brands. At the end of the expo, all completed blankets will be donated to the
Orangewood Children’s Home. Your free time will be turned into works of love for those in need.
Orangewood has requested blankets that would be suitable for teenage boys and girls. We can
help meet their needs.

Fast projects don’t mean boring! You will create items of your choice: a shirt, several scarves, belt,
necklace, and other gift items. More ideas for future projects will be shared as well. Think about
getting a head start on your gifts for the year. Learn many decorative techniques and ways to personalize your projects, to set yourself apart from the rest! You will walk away with lots of finished
projects and how-to information and inspiration to do more. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to

4. Emma Seabrooke- Body Work for Those Patterns 9-3 pm
$79. Kit fee $35.00 and includes pages of color instructions, grid paper, colored tissue paper,
Claire Tee and Cardigan Pattern,
Would you like to take a well fitted pattern and change it up a little or a lot? Learn to cut up your
basic Tee or Cardigan pattern to make and empire waist that fits you. How about interesting
yokes, or layering on a 45% angle? I also like adding crossovers, twists and anything that could be

creative, couture, and stylish. By creating a flattering garment you are working on your body and
soaring with your mind.
Student Supplies for H/O – Curved and straight ruler, glass head straight pins 1 3/8 inches long,
Paper and regular scissors, tape measure, seam gage, #2 pencils or pen, scotch tape and your
sewing machine
Supplies: sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, fabric marking tool, rotary cutter and mat or
fabric shears, and fine permanent marker or pencil. Bring a power strip and extension cord.
5. Sherry Searcy - Exploring Fabric Paints 9-1 pm $79. Kit fee $25.
Enjoy a magical experience, starting with a variety of fabric paints and techniques, and ending
with gorgeous, fantastic fabrics! We will create wonderful designs using thick and thin paints, art
tissue, stamps, stencils and more, on silk, cotton and rayon. Your own designs will be transformed
with gorgeous colors and patterns. Warning, this is so much fun, it’s addictive. Students will leave
with wonderful fabrics and a finished scarf. Please bring craft scissors and dress appropriately for
painting. All supplies will be provided.
6. Margot Silk-Forrest/ Destiny Carter Shoe and Handbag Revolution! Paint, Embellish
and Learn the Secrets of Our Trade 9 -3 pm $75. $20 kit fee.
Join us for a full day of amazements learning how to play with shoes and bags! Margot and Destiny are the national experts on revamping, restyling and re-volutionizing your plain — or plain old
— shoes and handbags into beautiful new creations.

Monica O’Rourke Bravo learned to sew on her grandmother’s knee
at age five. By the time she was fourteen, she was an accomplished
seamstress, having designed and sewn a variety of garments, swimsuits, and bras. She also designed and published her first bra pattern
while in high school. Since that time she has increased her knowledge of bra fit, engineering, and
construction. She is a member of the American Sewing Guild and has taught at numerous conferences and workshops, having fit over 1,000 women. Her passion is to see women’s health and
self-esteem improve through beautiful, well-fitting, supportive bras.
7. Beyond the Basics: Bra Fitting - Saturday 1-2 pm
You’ve made your own bra, now learn advanced techniques and applications. Will include using
your pattern to create new styles and change the placement of the cup seams, advanced pattern
drafting techniques for a variety of body and breast shapes, and Q & A time for any specialty
needs bra questions (like nursing bras, prosthetic bras, etc.).
8. Beyond the Basics: Bra Construction - Sunday 1-2 pm
You’ve made your own bra, now learn advanced techniques and applications. Will include construction techniques to create a more finished look, lace and trim uses and applications, and how
to use cotton woven to cover the band.
You’ll learn ALL their secrets on painting and attaching trims and embellishments to leather,
manmade leather and fabric shoes and handbags — and get a chance to shop from their private
embellishment collection, rarely available for sale anywhere else. This consists of all the beads,
buttons, stampings, ribbons, feather pads, lace, glitter, chains, vintage watch faces, hardware, and
all the other imaginative elements they use to create the bags and shoes that have appeared more
than 25 times in Altered Couture magazine!
Margot and Destiny will also show you how to make your own custom embellishments, combining
the beautiful with the quirky, the vintage with the modern. You will leave this class with a headful of
terrific new ideas, heightened inspiration for ALL your creative endeavors, and one or two pairs of
completed shoes plus a fabulous new bag!
Bring two or three pairs of shoes, made of either leather or manmade leather (fabric shoes okay
if you have no other choice), two different handbags, and a painting smock or apron. Margot and
Destiny will advise you on which items are best to work on in class. (Note: Running shoes are
NOT the best style for first-time shoe painters to choose.) Don’t bring anything made primarily of
vinyl or rubber — the paint won’t stick!

Jan has designed regular and plus sized patterns for her pattern
company, “Lingerie Secrets” since 1995. She also produces sewing
DVD’s & writes sewing books and articles. Jan travels extensively
across Canada and the United States teaching seminars and classes
to share her methods for creating beautiful Lingerie. At home in Winnipeg, Jan taught pattern making, garment construction and fitting
at the University of Manitoba for over 30 years and now thoroughly
enjoys teaching part time at Red River College and MC Design College.
9. Lingerie Secrets: The Knit Nightie - Saturday 8-noon, Kit Fee $35
Sew a Nightie in this class & gain experience in sewing knit fabrics, elastic & lace. You will learn
techniques for successfully sewing seams, elastics, straps, beautiful mitered lace necklines, hem
edges & many other great tricks along the way. Each student will work on a pre-cut cotton knit
nightie from Jan’s Lingerie Secrets pattern “Camisole & Nightie for Knit Fabric”. Select any size
from S- bust 34’’ to XL4- bust 54’’. Please give your bust & hip measurements and some color
choices to Jan via e-mail at [email protected] or via phone at 204-453-2462 by Oct 1st, 2013.
Cyndy has been knitting and sewing since she was 12. She created
scarves for many years, creating patterns from the basic knit stitches.
Within the last few years, her horizons have greatly expanded. She
now knits socks, sweaters, and various stuffed toys using printed
patterns or making up her own. She often meets with other knitters to
knit together, inspire and help each other. In addition to knitting and
sewing, Cyndy works, gardens and raises puppies for Canine Companion for Independence with her therapy dog in San Diego, CA.
14. Discover Knitting - Saturday 2:30-4:30 pm
Kit fee $15. Yarn and needles will be provided.
Have you always wanted to learn to knit, but were intimidated by your options? One look at a
knitting pattern and you think you’ve landed in another country? Come join us for an informative
introduction to knitting and learn the basic stitches and end up with a take-home project. We’ll
discuss needles, yarns, gauges and patterns and get you merrily knitting on your way. Class project is a handy pouch that combines basic stitches with a few useful tools to challenge you to knit
things other than scarves!
Students please bring to class: Sewing machine, polyester thread in beige & white, small scissors, pins, pincushion, hand sewing needle, ball point needle for the sewing machine (size 70-10),
tape measure, note book. Bring extension cord and power strip.
10. The Neckline - Sunday 8-11:30 am
Necklines must be perfectly smooth, even and flattering. Finishes may be invisible or be seen
from the right side as part of the garment design. The same pattern may have different neckline
finishes to give a whole new look. This is a techniques class and you will sew different samples to
create necklines in both knit & woven fabric. Your sample booklet will be a great reference for your
future sewing. Students please bring to class: Sewing machine, sewing supplies: scissors, pins,
pincushion, tape measure, machine needles, notebook, small ruler, marking pencil
Kit fee $25 includes notebook, Jan’s book “Anatomy of the Neckline” & all precut samples.
11. Lingerie Secrets: Working with Bias - Saturday 1-2 pm
A Bias cut design is comfortable and amazing! Jan will teach you methods for accurate cutting,
sewing & finishing in many garments made with the bias grain direction. Learn no-bulk necklines,
neat hems, smooth seams for lingerie and day wear designs. See new “Lingerie Secrets” designs,
innovative sewing techniques and professional finishing methods.
12. An Introduction to Draping - Saturday 4-5 pm
Have you ever wrapped fabric around your body, looked in the mirror and wonder what it might
be or what you could do next ? Draping is an art. It is the creation of clothing on a body or a dress
form, no pattern required. Jan will demonstrate draping techniques in class & this will be “can’twait-to-try-it-at-home” information. You will love it.
13. All about PJ’s, Camisoles, Boxers & Robes - Sunday 2:30-3:30 pm
We spend one third of our life in bed so let’s do it in style! Whether you prefer PJ’s, Camisoles &
Boxers or a Snuggly Robe, this class is a must! Jan will teach you about fabric choices & the sewing methods to sew or serge what will become your favourite night/lounge wear. Learn neckline,
waistline, seam line and hemline finishes. See Jan’s new Lingerie Secrets designs and the unique
ways they are created.

16. Yipes! Stripes! - Saturday 1-3:30 pm Kit Fee: $18
You see them all the time, those really cool striped pillows that have the stripes going all the way
around to make a square. But, you can never find just the right fabric. In class you’ll make your
own striped fabric out of linen strips. Then you’ll use the fabric to make a
striped pillow cover that has the stripes going around the pillow in a square.
It has shell buttons in the back to make it easy to wash.
Kit Includes: Fabric strips in different widths and colors, pattern, shell buttons. Student to bring: Sewing machine with buttonhole attachment, white
sewing thread and basic sewing supplies. Also bring a extension cord and
power strip.
17. Lavender and Lace Sachet - Sunday 10-noon Kit fee: $20
Learn the special technique for lace shaping on linen. Also learn how to attach lace to lace and
how to gather lace to fabric while making this lovely sachet. The center area
is perfect for later embellishment. The sachet has a buttoned back with an
insert so it can be refreshed with new lavender.
Kit includes: handkerchief linen, shell buttons, specialty needles, French
cotton insertion and edging lace, Swiss Batiste. Student to bring: Sewing
machine, white sewing thread and basic sewing supplies. Be sure to bring
an extension cord and power strip.
18. Decorative Towel Bands Sunday 1- 2:30 pm Kit Fee: $6
Use your decorative stitches on your sewing machine to create stunning effects to cover towel
bands. All you need is pieces of linen and contrasting thread. You can also add ribbon or gimp that
is covered with a wide decorative stitch. After the band covers are done,
they are attached to the towel in a way that the stitches are barely there.
Kit includes: White hand towel, a variety of linen colors, colored thread,
ribbons, gimp and cords from which to choose. Student to bring: Sewing
machine with several decorative stitches, white sewing thread and basic
sewing supplies. Be sure to bring an extension cord and power strip.

Are you one of many with the ‘Fear of Sheer’? Sheers are here and now, and will give you a feminine flirty look with a simple garment. Lyla will share all the basics you need to insure you have a
successful experience with sheer and silky fabrics. See many wonderful garments, as you explore
how to complete a variety of beautiful narrow hem edges, problem solve appropriate seams,
and successfully add a buttonhole. You’ll even learn how to add small sheer design pieces to an
existing pattern to give it a fresh new look. Lyla will guide you through techniques that will simplify
the handling and sewing of sheers. Create reversible pieces, layer fabrics to add dimension and
variations in color, add innovative accents, and more.
20. Rayon Knits and Beyond - Sunday 10-11 am
Enjoy the qualities and comfort of rayon knits with simple, fast, updated techniques. Discover
Lyla’s unique decorative details which utilize the versatile characteristics of today’s knit fabrics.
Innovative ideas, along with step by step instructions will inspire you to sew with all sorts of knits,
from edgings to shirring, decorative trim to easy hemming stable seams and more.
21. Distinctive Fleece Design - Sunday 2:30-3:30 pm
You asked for it, and Lyla answered with this brand NEW Fleece class. She has created yet another stunning set of fleece garments with a focus on combining fleece with other fabrics and notions.
Learning these skills will open a world of possibilities. You will see new garments, techniques, and
ideas galore. Fleece does not have to scream SPORTY! It is such a comfortable, easy care fabric,
and can be made to look very stylish with the appropriate techniques. It is the perfect fabric for the
great Northwest! This class is suitable for all skill levels.
22. Six in Sixty - Saturday 8:30-9:30 am
Learn a new technique every ten minutes and walk out of class with skills you can really use. Discover fast and easy ways to give your finished garments the look of high-end fashion. Get better
results using today’s products, tools and methods.
23. Fabric Whisperer - Saturday 10-11 am
The best design comes from letting unique fabric characteristics speak to you. Join Lyla Messinger, the Fabric Whisperer, as she shows you ways to create inspiring design by choosing patterns
and embellishments that work well with the fabric at hand. Fabric might inspire something as
simple as a small addition or subtraction, a boutique element, or hemline change. With simple to fit
and sew patterns from Lyla’s L.J. Designs, A la Mode and Eclectic Treasures pattern lines, including accessories and bags, and your fresh eye for fabric whispering, you’ll be inspired to create and
sew for yourself.

Peggy Sagers holds a degree in Fashion Design and Fashion
Merchandising. Peggy spends her time teaching at seminars in

26. Fitting Yourself, by Yourself - Saturday 2:30-3:30 pm
You can do this yourself…fit yourself, by yourself…you do not need a group, you need the correct info and it is not out there in books…so come on in and sit on down and learn some correct
information that will allow you to have more fun when sewing for your and learn to fit yourself, by
yourself…and oh, bring a french curve!!
27. The Man Shirt Sunday - 2:30-3:30 pm
What better way to say, “Thank you” or “I love you” than making your male friend his own shirt…he
will love it, love you and wear it proudly. Find out all the details on these fun easy shirts and even
make one for you. Lots of samples and sewn steps for how-to on collars, cuffs, plackets and more.
28. Yoga Pant variations… - Sunday 1-2 pm
This Yoga pant thing is here to stay and so many great fabrics and so many great variations are
being shown. Come see how great they are and how quick and simple they are to do…we will
make capri’s, shorts, add pockets, change waist bands, etc. These pants can certainly be your
mainstay wardrobe basic.

Emma Seabrooke is a certified Palmer/Pletsch pant and fit instructor.
She trained with a French couturier for years and took many fashion
design courses in college while obtaining her degree. She has been
fashion sewing since the age of six, first for her dolls then for herself
and others. Emma loves sewing with knits and has designed patterns
for them. She has perfected the best styles for all sizes especially the
well-endowed ladies. She travels and teaches from coast to coast
and on TV. Emma is an active member of the Miami Chapter Board of the American Sewing Guild.
All her ladies can achieve clothing that looks and fits beautifully. She carries patterns, notions and
fabrics that apply to her classes.
Sherry has been a fiber artists since 1985. Initially she painted landscapes on silk with French dyes. She took her first dye workshop in
the late 1980’s and have been in love with creating art cloth
since. She continues to update her skills and techniques by taking
workshops in dye techniques, shibori, and fabric manipulation. I
especially enjoy creating texture and deisgn on natural fibers as
well as altering commercial fabrics. She is a member of the Eastside
Fiber Artists, Dallas Area Fiber Artists, Texas Federation of Fiber Artists, Surface Design Association, and SAQA. She teaches several fabric surface design workshops.
29. New Tee Necklines - Sunday 8:30-9:30 am
Are you tired of those old tee shirts, those newer ones that are just too low cut, the great V- neck
that just doesn’t look so great now, or you just need a new look, like a basket-weave neckline, a
sunburst neckline, a pleat and re-pleat, neckline or something simple like a couple different picot
necklines, come on into class, I have lots to share. Learn to remodel, update, or just make some
new necklines.
30. New Ideas for Neckline and Sleeve Pattern Re-Drafting - Sunday 1-2 pm
Like to learn how to lower or re-curve a neckline, V or square a neckline, yoke a neckline, empire
a waist that fits, and many other types of re-drafting to your favorite tee. How about changing the
sleeves by re-drafting, you can do this as well and I can show you how. Come with some changes
you would like to make and we will try those as well.
31. Jacket UP, your style that is!!! - Saturday 4-5 pm
Come learn some new ways to spice up your well-loved jackets, your newly purchased RTW
jackets, or how about redesigning that old favorite jacket pattern that fits great but is starting to
become boring. I have some great ideas to share with you.
32. Correct Steps to take with Stay Tapes and Knits - Sat 2:30-3:30 pm
All the little things you do while sewing with knits can add up to a very big difference in how professional the finished garment looks. Watch while Emma shows you and assortment of different knits
and how to make stronger shoulder seams, straight side seams, non-warped hems on all types of
knits/stretchy fabrics and a couple easy finishes for your necklines.

33. Letterign on Cloth - Saturday 8:30-10:30 am
Kit Fee: $10 (includes 4 pieces hand dyed cloth including cotton, rayon and silk; two pieces commercial print cloth, lined paper for practice, sponge brush, one permanent marker)
Instructor will provide fabric paints, paint sticks, permanent inks, permanent markers, stamps and
stencils.
This class will begin with a discussion of Lettering as a design element. Instructions and demonstrations on using stamps, stencils, handwriting on cloth and calligraphy will be shown and students will be involved in practicing each techniques as it is being shown. Lots of fun play and
question time will be allotted. For anyone who has wanted to spruce up that old boring fabric, now
is your chance.
34. Design Unique Fabrics with Paints - Sunday 10-noon
Material Kit Fee: $15 (includes 3 ½ yard pieces of fabric, sponge brush, 2 paint brushes).
Instructor will provide fabric paints, paint sticks, resists, beads, glitter and foils.
This class will really unleash the box in all of us. First a discussion of fabric paints, resists and
techniques and design with demonstration of all of these…and even if you don’t know what they
are, you will love seeing it all in action, them jumping in and getting your hands involved. Next, a
whole range of specialty paints, paint sticks will be shown how to use to create layers of design
and again, students get to get involved, not just watch. Then some glitz will be added with foils,
glitter and beads and just the right touch to make your fabric completely yours. Wow! That was
fun!!!

advise you on which pair is best to work on in class. (Note: Running shoes are NOT the best style
for first-time shoe painters to choose.)
You’ll learn how to transform worn or ordinary shoes into one-of-a-kind works of wearable art.
Margot and Destiny will show several painting techniques using the beautiful Lumiere paints, plus
how to choose and attach embellishments. They will bring their private stash of beads, buttons,
charms, chains, piping, ribbon, and appliques for you to shop from! You can also bring your own
favorite embellishments. You‘ll use paints and other supplies that will last — even in the rain —

home for use on fabric, leather, manmade leather and paper..
Bring any solid-color T-shirt, simple top, apron or nightshirt, and transform it by sponging on one,
two, three or more colors in radiant clouds of tiny dots, using specialty sponges and the beautiful, permanent Lumiere paints. Stencils and masking tape will be available for color blocking and
making specific designs, or bring your own stencils. Bring an apron or painting smock to protect
your clothes and join the fun!

slips. You will be making 1 slip in class. Finishing a great outfit means wearing the right undergarments. The half-slip is a fun class where you will make your half-slip to your own specifications.
Make it long or short, you’re the designer. In this class you will learn special techniques in working
