BEECHWOOD HOME & SCHOOL ASSOCIATION MINUTES FROM MEETING HELD: March 17, 2015 at 7:15pm PRESENT: Tracey Klinger, Sharon Riga Curro, Kim Hannah, Erica Ostrega, Ann Zilberbrant, Mike Finkel, Jen Morrison, Stacey Katsichtis, Gina Colaciello, Tara Jesion, Neesa Harroche, and Mr. Hayter. 1.Next meeting to be held on: Thursday, April 16th at 7:15 pm 2. Approval of minutes from meeting on March 17, 2014: - Erica Ostrega – 1st, Kim Hannah – 2nd, all in favor 3. Movie Night - Next one to take place, April 23, 2015 - "Big Hero Six" Discussion ensued on how to ensure we know the numbers to attend in advance: o Form to complete online or print out? o Eliminate paying at the door? o Stay the same as we have always done o Kim Hannah to check with Donna to purchase the movie o Volunteers for movie night are: Kim, Tracey, Erica, Stacey, Sharon, Gina, Neesa and her helpers.... 4. Flower fundraiser - April 1, 2015 - need volunteers to package for the pick up - Stacey, Gina & Kim April 2, 2015 - need people to distribute the flowers 2:30-3:30 - Gina / 3:30-4:30 - Tracey / 4:30-6:30 - Kim Same buckets from Jeremy on April 1, 2015 5. End-of-Year Picnic: - Date scheduled for Wednesday June 10th (rain date Thurs. June 11). - Nathalie has ordered the table & BBQs Dynamix $1600 - discussion about other options, concerns with grade 5 having to run the activities Stacey suggested same DJ as Grade 6 Grad, $1000 with dancers/animators Use the school sound system instead of spending the money on a DJ Kloda - 2 bouncy houses $1500 cash - look into relay race bouncers with less wait time Mr. Hayter will take care of activities - discussion of "old style" activities, dunk tank.... Tracey to ask Laura if her family will be generously donating hot dogs Kim to ask Mrs. B. if possibility of Cotts drinks being donated Stacey to seek vending machine contact for chips Hot dogs, will teachers be available to cook the food? Tickets for food, online survey? Like last year? Daycare should not be allowed out before parents arrive for pick up - Magic Show with Jody Mihaly - Neesa confirmed $150 (15 min show + 1-2 hrs of entertainment) - Face painting - PCHS kids - Menchies - do we want to do it again? 6. Kindergarten Orientation - May 15, 2015 - Ann & Kim to forward information to the HandS email - Folders for each new student and Beechwood T-Shirt 7. Chocolate Fundraiser - - Dates of the fundraiser: March 30th - April 10th Delivery of chocolates to be March 27, 2015 - Jen and volunteers to sort boxes by classroom o breakdown of chocolates per box (5 kinds - 7 each of toffee, caramilk, dairy milk, mint & dark chocolate) o 9 free boxes to offset cost of prizes (Mini Ipad, possibility of other prizes) Fundraiser prizes: Mini Ipad to purchase (Tracey to order) as motivation for children to sell. Days to collect are : April 1 (Jen & Stacey), April 2 (Mike, Kim?), April 8 (Sharon & Neesa), April 13 (Jen for Final Collection) Draw for prizes April 17 8. Skate-a-thon - Money collected $278 - Cost HandS $896.81 - In the future there needs to be a better explanation as to where the donation will be going 9. Scholastics - This year the total raised was $2007.73, leftover to be spent from last year was $631.89 10. Principal's Report: - Students Agenda for next year - what do we like about it? - Pre-printed to include days off, spirit days, etc..... - Beechwood clothing to be sold throughout the year, hats, T-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants. Principal’s Monthly Report Tuesday, March 17th, 2015 Recap of recent events 1. Pink Shirt Day – The daycare students and educators and organized and presented a day of activities including an excellent assembly in the afternoon. 2. Skating – The Skating Day at the DDO Civic Centre was a great success, the students really enjoyed the time they spent skating together. 3. Winter Carnival – The entire school spent the morning enjoying the great weather at Winter Carnival, the grade 6 students animated various games and activities for the entire school. 4. Montreal Alouettes visit – Josh Bourke visited Beechwood on March 11th to talk about perseverance and respect to our students. He presented the Values Awards for term two to our deserving students. We followed this with a student and teacher basketball game which was a lot of fun! 5. Aerospace presentation – Bryan Eweson who is an Aerospace educator presented to our Kindergarten and Grade 1 students on Thursday March 12th, he spoke about Space and Robotics. 6. Holocaust field trip – The grade 6 classes went on their Holocaust trip on Thursday March 12th Coming soon… 7. Arts Week – March 16th until March 20th. Activities include; music appreciation, daily homework/challenges, music concerts, dancing, improvisation, artwork. The K to grade 4 students had a performance from the grade 9 PCHS band this morning, it was great to see three graduates playing in the band. The cycle three students will attend the Adams Family Musical at LPHS on Friday March 20th. 8. Champs Basketball – Registration is complete for Champs basketball after school program at both junior and senior levels, the ten week program will begin on March 24th from 3:40 – 4:40pm. 9. WE Day – Four grade 6 students will be attending the Free the Children WE Day on March 24th at Theater St-Denis. 10. Mini iPads – We have received the apps we ordered through the school board, we have installed most and the mini iPads will be available for students to use next week. 11. Gumboot Dancing – The cycle three students will have a workshop in Gumboot Dancing on March 31st. 12. Spirit Day – Our next spirit day is Friday March 20th, all staff and students will wear their t-shirts. Important Dates: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
