PMFS Silent and Live Auction
Procedures and Rules
Welcome to the PMFS Silent and Live Auction! We hope you have an enjoyable
evening. There are delicious refreshments, wonderful people, musical entertainment, and
of course fantastic items and services available for bidding.
The items for auction:
The Auction Committee has endeavored to describe correctly the items and services
available for bid, but everything will be sold “as is” and all sales are final. Please read the
certificate carefully to determine if there are any restrictions on the items on which you
bid. Remember that the success of the auction depends on the goodwill of donors. Please
do not ask donors for exchanges or for alterations of the terms of the donation.
The success of our Auction could not have been possible without the help of merchants
who so generously donated items of value for your bidding pleasure. We encourage all of
you to acknowledge a contributor’s support when you visit their establishments.
Silent Bidding Procedure:
All items have been assigned a specific number displayed on its bid sheet with an
estimated or retail monetary value, a minimum bid, and a recommended bid increment.
Each item is listed in the program with a description of the goods and services.
Upon registration, you received an individual bid number on your program. This number
identifies you when you enter your bid (if you lose your number/program, just ask
someone at the desk for it). When you see something of interest, write down your number
and the amount of bid on the first available bid line on the bid sheet. Please observe the
minimum bid and bid increment amounts. You can bid more than once on an item. Silent
Auction tables will close at different times during the evening. A five-minute warning
will be given prior to closing of the table(s), and bid sheets will be collected immediately
upon closing.
When bidding closes, the bid sheets will be reviewed by auction volunteers. The final
number will be displayed on the bid sheets on the original auction tables. If you are the
highest bidder, the item is yours. Please take the item with you tonight. The last silent
auction table will close before the Live Auction begins.
Live Auction Procedure:
The live auction will begin at 8pm and will continue until all items have been auctioned.
To enter a bid, the bidder raises her/his bid card so that the auctioneer can see the bid
number. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer will be the purchaser. The
auctioneer will have final discretion in determining the successful purchaser.
Tax Deduction General Information:
The following is not a complete summary of the applicable federal income tax rules; we
encourage you to consult your tax advisor for additional information. The amount of your
contribution that is deductible for federal income tax purposes is limited to the extent that
the amount paid for an item exceeds the fair market value of that item. Please retain your
auction receipt for your tax records, and consult a lawyer or accountant for advice about
the appropriate income tax deductions you may take.
Payment and Pickup:
At the end of the silent auction, receipts totaling all purchases of each bid number will be
printed. You may check out then or wait for the close of the live auction. We accept
payment by cash, check, VISA, MasterCard or American Express. Upon payment, you
will receive any paperwork, certificates, tickets or coupons that go with the item and you
can pick up your gift at the original table position. You must remove all of your items by
the end of the auction—we cannot hold or store them.
Thanks for coming. We hope you have a wonderful evening!

Encaustic Painting
8" x 8" encaustic painting titled 'Spring'
“What is encaustic? Encaustic is a wax based paint (composed of beeswax, resin and pigment)
that is kept molten on a heated palette. It is applied to a porous surface and then reheated
in order to fuse the paint. The word „encaustic‟ comes from the Greek word enkaiein, meaning
to burn in, referring to the process of fusing the paint.
Encaustic is as versatile as any 21st century medium. It can be polished to a high gloss, carved,
scraped, layered, collaged, dipped, cast, modeled, sculpted, textured, and combined with oil.
It cools immediately so that there is no drying time, yet it can always be reworked.
Encaustic is also a very durable artists‟ paint due to the fact that beeswax is impervious to
moisture. Because of this, it will not deteriorate, it will not yellow, and it will not darken.
Encaustic paintings do not have to be varnished or protected by glass."

Misson Statement + Philosophy
Mission Statement
Plymouth Meeting Friends School provides an education based on the Quaker belief
that there is that of God in everyone. Through its nurturing environment, the
school offers an intellectually challenging and creative academic program to a
diverse student body. Supported by adults who model respect and understanding,
students reach toward individual strengths as responsible members of a community
of learners.
Statement of Educational Philosophy
In 1780 members of Plymouth Monthly Meeting established Plymouth Meeting
Friends School to provide a co-educational, elementary education based on the
Quaker belief that there is that of God in each person. Children from diverse
economic, ethnic and religious backgrounds are welcomed into the student body. In
the spirit of Friends, PMFS cultivates an environment that celebrates the world
and its people with the hope that children will discover their own gifts, recognize
differences and similarities, value stewardship and service and remain ever-curious,
lifelong learners.
Plymouth Meeting Friends School promotes excellence in academics, arts and
athletics through an integrated, developmentally sequenced curriculum that
includes service learning activities, field trips and travel extending beyond the
immediate community. Spiritual development grows from nurturing of the whole
child. Testimonies, such as peace, simplicity and integrity, equality and community,
are the outward manifestation of Friends‟ belief and are interwoven into the
educational process for children, parents and faculty. Development of “the Light”
within each person is encouraged in every aspect of the school day. Emphasis is
placed on peaceful non-violent response to conflict and decision-making as well as
the development of responsibility to a global community. While continually
examining the balance of academic challenge and age-appropriate expectations,
PMFS celebrates the exuberance and joy of children who are active members of a
community of learners.
