There was a great display of vehicles on the Saturday lined up in decades. It was rather impressive to see how car shapes changed, going from the curved hand-formed panels of the veteran and vintage cars to vehicles of the 70's and 80's with their machine-pressed, squarer panels. Thanks again to the Rally Committee members for all your time and effort for the Club. Thank you also to the volunteers on the Saturday and Sunday, doing all the jobs that needed to be filled in order to make the weekend work so smoothly. I hope that you are able to enjoy some of the cooler days ahead in your vehicles and I hope to see you out in my new addition soon too. The 2015 Berrima Rally listed 105 entrants from across the State showing that this remains a popular event for many visiting clubs, with a good representation from our own. The fickle Highlands weather chose to be kind – with much cloud but little rain. Interesting new entrants included two Austin Shearlines, a 1974 Morgan, our President’s 1964 Falcon De Luxe, a 1927 Morris Cowley Flatnose with original paint and upholstery, John Singer’s latest Zeta (No. 5 in his collection!), “twin” silver Zephyrs and “twin” green Morris Majors, and a [1954] sky blue Thunderbird. The 40th Anniversary itself was celebrated with the “Ruby” theme, engraved mugs and pens and a souvenir colour Rally Programme that gave the history of the Rally from its Dahlia Festival beginnings and a collection of pictures from over the years. Keith Gaymer, Librarian of the Life Motor Museum at Dapto, came up for the static display and left with a Rally Programme to add to their library. Entrants were given the directions for a walking tour of Mittagong focusing on the prominent buildings of its past 150 years of history. The Dinner-Dance was a sea of red and the RSL added their own touch with red overhead lighting. The RSL staff seem to enjoy the fun of the dress-up each year. Our regular band, Style, were there to entertain and have grown very comfortable with this regular gig – playing rock and roll so that it doesn’t hurt your ears. The stage was decorated with the original backdrop to the 2000 Rally’s racy pantomime, Ball Breakers. Other decorations were a collection of trophies from past rallies and historical information about Mittagong to recognise its 150th Anniversary. There were also photos of the Calendar Girls skit of 2002. The laminated tablemats were a souvenir, displaying the distinctive rally badges designed by Dick Bates and Bob Swinfield over the years. 5 Drive Chatter April, 2015 Bill Betts was unrecognisable as The Lady in Red and broke a few hearts with his/her demure smile and rosy cheeks. Bill found it a bit odd dancing with all the gents in the progressive dance and crossed his legs rather than decide which of the toilets to use. The Sunday run took us on a fine tour of diverse Highland scenery, down the Wombeyan Caves Road, along Greenhills Road through to Berrima and then Moss Vale (for morning tea), then Kangaloon and finishing up along Range Road, descending into Mittagong. Moss Vale Rotary kindly hosted the Sunday morning tea at their local showground and gave a tasty spread. A photographer from the exclusive High Life magazine was kept busy taking shots at the showground, so look out for April issue. Another great Berrima Rally and thanks to the team who put it together.
