Letter from the Editor
AH...AH...AAHH...CHOO! Don’t you just love spring? Well, yes, despite the allergies, spring is a lovely time of year. The kids are already asking to jump in the
pool and my weeds are out of control!! But let’s leave all that to the hubby and talk about sewing. It is such a fun time at the shop as all the pretty spring
prints arrive and you guys start wanting to sew adorable dresses for Easter and summer. Classes are in full swing and we are preparing for our 2nd Annual
Sew Street Market on April 21st. April also brings our 9th Anniversary! We want to say a very big THANK YOU to all of you who have made us what we are
today. Make sure to join us on the 27th and 28th for the party!
This summer will be no exception in the fun category as we try our best to keep you sewing instead of sweating outside. You will notice the fantastic line-up
we have for you this summer by way of classes. We have some amazing names like Pepper Cory, Mary Jo Hiney and Katie Pasquini Masopust...just to name
a few. Take a class from one of these talented artists, as this will really “up” your sewing and quilting game. Let’s not forget our in-house teachers that
are so excited to bring you some terrific classes and clubs. We have three brand-new clubs for you to try out this summer! Our Accuquilt GO! club, Modern
Misfits and Doll Quilt club are perfect opportunities to meet some new people who share the same sewing interests as you.
I would also like to encourage you to join us on June 2nd for some light-hearted charity work. We will be sewing Sock Monkeys for the children of Safe Nest.
These kids could really use some smiles and we hope to deliver just that. A fun Sock Monkey contest is also in store for those of you who love a challenge.
By the way...nice job everyone on the Bag Challenge. We have 18 gorgeous bags on display in the shop right now. Make sure to stop by and vote during
April! You will have a chance to vote again in August on our Sock Monkey Challenge and make sure you do, as Quiltique will be donating $1 for every vote
that comes in.
Attention all young sewists!! Camp Sew What is back, along with the all-new Camp Sew What Else. This is a great opportunity for your child to learn a life
long skill and have a blast doing it. Spots filled up quickly last year so don’t hesitate in securing your spot this year. It’s a long summer and sewing will keep
your kids from the “I’m bored!” syndrome.
Well, I could go on...and on...and on, but I am sure you would rather just move on through the pages yourself. Have a great spring everyone and ENJOY!
Happy Sewing!
Jennifer and The Quiltique Family

In addition, Quiltique will host a Silly Sock Monkey Contest during the month
of July. Purchase your Original Rockford Red Heel socks (brown, pink or blue

NEW FOR 2012...Camp Sew What Else is the
next step in your child’s sewing adventure. This camp is also for kids aged 10-16
who have experienced sewing with a machine before. Maybe they were with us
for Camp Sew What last summer (or are coming this summer) or already know
sewing basics and their way around a sewing machine. Camp Sew What Else is for
experienced kids who want something fun and different to do before they return
back to school, and want to advance their sewing skills.

We ask that students have the maturity to follow instructions and be careful in a potentially dangerous environment. A
waiver of liability must be signed by the parent/guardian of the student.
In order to sign up for Camp Sew What Else, children must have completed Camp Sew What 2011, be signed up for

so that you can actually quilt them freehand on

baby quilts for friends who were starting their families. She has
been in love with this art form ever since and continually looks for
new approaches to the old standards. Christine began a successful
machine-quilting business in 2000 and since then she has received
various awards at the local and state level, had her work published
in American Patchwork and Quilting, and appeared on and helped
create a quilt for ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Christine’s

Why and How to Label
Your Quilts
Q-Tip
A quilt without a label is like a person
without a name. Once that quilt leaves
your hands, it may attract enormous
attention and compliments for its
beauty. But without a label, it can’t
speak about where it came from.
When you finish a quilt and send it out
into the world, a label announces who
made the quilt and often much more.
The quilt will be able to speak for itself
now -- and in the future. Historians are
able to decipher a quilt’s background
if they have just a name and a date.
Even more important, the label will
provide vital information to whoever
owns the quilt after its maker. When the
quiltmaker is long gone, the grown man
or woman who slept with that quilt as
a child will know who the source of this
cherished object was.
Labels also help lost quilts get found.
Theft isn’t the biggest cause of missing
quilts, experts say. Some get lost in the
mail while en route to a loved one or
a show. Some get misplaced: a sleepy
toddler might leave her quilt in a
restaurant or hotel room.
So that’s why every quilt should be
labeled. But what information should
the label provide?
Some labels are quite elaborate, but
that’s a matter of choice and art.
Historians and appraisers say the
minimum on a label should be:
• The quiltmaker’s name. If one
person pieced the quilt and another
did the quilting, both should be
acknowledged.
• Date when the quilt was made,
either the start and finish dates or
just when it was completed.
• Location(s) where the quilt was
made.
• Pattern name or title, whatever the
quilter calls the quilt.
• E-mail address if you have one.
• Additionally, if the quilt was made
for a special occasion like a special
birthday or anniversary you’ll
probably want to mention that on
the label.
If the quilt is a gift, writing washing
instructions on the label is very helpful.
To assure the durability of your label,
it’s best to sew through the layers of the
quilt when you attach it to the back. A
label that is simply appliquéd onto the
backing can be easily removed.
Use an archival quality marker so the
writing won’t wash out. Some quilters
use their computers to print the label
on specially treated cotton that they run
through their home printers.
Be creative with your labels, and make
them part of the overall design theme
of the quilt. If it’s a flower quilt, fussy
cut some flowers and sew them around
the edges of the label. Labels can be
big. Labels can be pieced, with borders.
Some quilters use old handkerchiefs
for their labels, which they buy at flea
markets and garage sales. Or you can
simply cut a rectangle of fabric from
white or off-white fabric, write down
the basic information in marker, and
sew the label securely to your quilt.
Your quilt isn’t finished until the label is
sewn on!

Meet Our Staff and Teachers… Cathy Lamont
Cathy has been part of the “Quiltique Family” for over 2 years and is valued as an
individual that knows all aspects of the store…along with her kindness and desire to
provide exceptional customer service. If you have had the opportunity to have her
assist you or taken a class from her you know what we mean.
Cathy was born in Walnut Creek, CA and grew up just south of San Francisco. Cathy
had what some would say an interesting childhood. Born into a Spaniard/Filipino
family Cathy had experiences a lot of children do not. She attended school in both
California and the Philippines and she would Scuba Dive with her uncle in the
Philippines three times a week for an entire year. Needless to say Cathy still has a love
for any water activity.
Cathy and her family have lived in Las Vegas off and on for 28 years. She enjoys
gardening, baking and sporting events, especially ones that include her sons or the San
Francisco 49ers (she is a big fan). This past year Cathy also became a first time grandma
and is really enjoying that new experience.
With everything Cathy has going on she still has a strong passion for quilting and as she said herself, “It is an expression of
inner creativity and love”. We feel the same, Cathy, and are very fortunate to have you on our team!
