The course is a mix of single track and fire road, and includes a variety of terrain from rocky to soft forest cover. It is fast and smooth with few technical sections-- by Tahoe standards. Riders willclimb approximately 500 feet per lap and be riding between an elevation level of 6,300- 6,800 ft. The course is equally well suited for geared bikes and for single speeds. The course features miles of single track through pine forests and high sierra meadows. Choose between a 6K, 12K, 1/2 Marathon and 50K distance. The 6K and 12K have mild climbing and descending. The half and 50K explore a little farther into the trail system and have a bit more elevation gain and loss per lap. Burton Creek drains the runoff from Mt. Watson watershead into Lake Tahoe. You'll see and hear the creek often and June is a great wildflower time of year as well. Bring the youngsters as after the 12K we have age appropriate distances for the kids races. It highlights the best of Lake Tahoe’s trails, views, and natural challenges. Racers start with a swim in famous Lake Tahoe, one of the purest and deepest lakes in North America. The bike section test racers’ climbing and fitness levels as it starts with a 1500’ climb up Tunnel Creek fire road. Racers pop out from Tunnel Creek onto the famous Flume Trail, which skirts the mountain side overlooking Lake Tahoe. Riders continue on past Marlette Lake and down a somewhat technical and fast descent on the Tahoe Rim Trail. The views are breathtaking! Both the Short and Long course complete the 22 mile bike with approximately 3,500 feet of climbing. After the bike section racers transition onto a trail running course that is fast and scenic with tall pines, aspens, and creek crossings. New for 2015, place in the top 15 of your category and qualify directly into the XTERRA USA Championship. This is an amazing course! Big Blue Trail Run 5K and 10K The Marlette 50K is a truly adventurous romp through some of planet earth’s most scenic and challenging trails. Based at Spooner Lake in Lake Tahoe Nevada’s State Park the run features 30 miles of epic trail and view. Think prime Sierra single track and add in 360 degree panorama views of Lake Tahoe, the Carson Valley and Range. Marlette Lake lies in the middle of the course and if you’re heating up during the run feel free to take a plunge. What a day, Trail Running and Triathlon. The Big Blue 5K and 10K trail run will take runners on a beautiful course featuring tall pines, single track and stream crossings. Feed and water stations along the way and lots of cheering from the crowds will keep you going strong. The Marlette 10 Miler starts at Spooner Lake and heads north on the North Canyon Trail. Then heads along the south shore of Marlette Lake to the Marlette Lake Trail and back to the finish. This is a beautiful run featuring views of the canyon and Snow Valley Peak. Without fail, each year we hear that racers find themselves giving up their efforts for a Personal Best, or to beat the person just in front of them, and instead stopping to look out at the crystal blue water of Emerald Bay. The Emerald Bay Trail Run starts at Eagle Point, leading along a single track trail that hugs the lake shore up through Emerald Bay and up the Rubicon Trail to D.L. Bliss State Park to finish at Lester Beach. The course is a 7.1 mile/12K point to point with moderate climbing. Emerald Bay State Park is considered one of the most beautiful areas in the United States, as evidenced by its status as a Registered Natural Landmark. Carved by ancient glaciers, Emerald Bay offers unequaled scenic hiking, and trail running. Majestic Emerald Bay is just a small part of this beautiful and pristine California State Park covering 1,830 acres of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. You will find six miles of both rocky and sandy beaches on the magnificent shoreline. You will see ponderosa and jeffrey pines, red and white fir, cedar, junipers and cottonwood, and gnarled and stunted sugar pines. There are two events, an 8 hour and a shorter event with finishing times of 2+ hours. Navigation plays a role in the 8 hour race. You’re provided maps, coordinates, bearings and other critical information needed to reach the various check-point locations throughout the National Forest. This is the purest form of racing and adventure. No marked courses here. The 2 hour race has all the adventure, less the navigation requirement. Tahoe’s terrain, defined by its towering peaks of the High Sierra, and endless trail networks, will be your playground for the day.
