season. The Winter Discovery Center provides a place-based science/
ski program to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students from the Lake Tahoe
region. Free Skiing for Schools Program provides free skiing to teachers
and their students, giving all children the opportunity to participate in
winter physical activity. These are examples of the programs that have
been developed over the years. This has been possible through the

Lake Tahoe’s trails, views, and natural challenges.
Racers start with a swim in famous Lake Tahoe, one of the
purest and deepest lakes in North America. The bike section
test racers’ climbing and fitness levels as it starts with a 1500’
climb up Tunnel Creek fire road. Racers pop out from Tunnel
Creek onto the famous Flume Trail, which skirts the mountain
side overlooking Lake Tahoe. Riders continue on past Marlette
Lake and down a somewhat technical and fast descent on the
Tahoe Rim Trail. The views are breathtaking! Both the Short
and Long course complete the 22 mile bike with approximately
3,500 feet of climbing. After the bike section racers transition
onto a trail running course that is fast and scenic with tall pines,
aspens, and creek crossings. New for 2015, place in the top
15 of your category and qualify directly into the XTERRA USA
Championship.

HEAVENLY MOUNTAIN RUN
The Basics:
“From Bay to Bliss”
You know the views are pretty dang good when you have
racers who just can’t bear to run all the way through the
course without stopping and taking in the sites. Without fail,
each year we hear that racers find themselves giving up their
efforts for a Personal Best, or to beat the person just in front
of them, and instead stopping to look out at the crystal blue
water of Emerald Bay.
The Emerald Bay Trail Run starts at Eagle Point, leading
along a single track trail that hugs the lake shore up through
Emerald Bay and up the Rubicon Trail to D.L. Bliss State Park
to finish at Lester Beach. The course is a 7.1 mile/12K point to
point with moderate climbing.
Emerald Bay State Park is considered one of the most
beautiful areas in the United States, as evidenced by its status
as a Registered Natural Landmark. Carved by ancient glaciers,
Emerald Bay offers unequaled scenic hiking, and trail running.
Majestic Emerald Bay is just a small part of this beautiful
and pristine California State Park covering 1,830 acres of the
Sierra Nevada Mountains. You will find six miles of both rocky
and sandy beaches on the magnificent shoreline. You will see
ponderosa and jeffrey pines, red and white fir, cedar, junipers
and cottonwood, and gnarled and stunted sugar pines.

EMERALD BAY TRAIL RUN
Emerald Bay Trail Run

of Lake Tahoe. From the crest of Eagle Falls in Emerald Bay
State Park, you can see a brilliant panorama of Emerald Bay,
Fannette Island, Lake Tahoe, and the distant Nevada shore.
