Message from the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee
Dear Guest,
We are pleased to welcome you to the 8th conference of the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the
International Biometric Society (EMR-IBS) at the Convention Center of the Nevsehir Haci Bektas Veli
University located at the heart of Cappadocia region of Turkey.
The successful series of meeting of EMR took place in three Mediterranean countries starting in
Athens, Greece in 2001, followed by Antalya, Turkey in 2003, Corfu, Greece in 2005, Eilat, Israel in
2007, Istanbul Turkey in 2009, Crete, Greece in 2011, and Tel Aviv Israel in 2013.
The meeting will takes place in a modern and newly built congress center of the Nevsehir Hacı Bektaş
Veli University. We are thankful to the rector of this university Prof. Dr. Filiz Kılıç for her great hospitality
and her support by opening up their facilities at the campus for us to use during the period of
conference.
The scientific program consists of 19 invited, 90 oral presentations and 52 poster presentations. In
addition, 3 preconference short courses are being offered, two full day and one half a day short course.
We are grateful to the continued support of executive director Dee Ann Walker helping us with a
financial support to bring distinguished lecturer for the short course.
Frontier Science Foundation -Hellas (FSF-H) is supporting participation of young researchers in
memory of Steve Lagakos who had been great supporter of the EMR, providing 3 awards to students
with the best submitted abstracts.
At this conference we are also initiating the first memorial session in the memory of Prof. Marvin Zelen
of the Harvard University in which the first lecture will be given by Ori Davidov titled "ORDERED
REGRESSIONS WITH APPLICATIONS".
We are also thankful to the members of scientific committee with contributions into determination of
session topics discussed at the conference, as a referee for the decision on the abstracts submitted
and president of the EMR Havi Murad of Gertner Institute for Epidemiology and Health Policy Research,
Israel
And finally we thank to my university, Çukurova University and The Scientific and Technical Research
Council of Turkey for providing generous donations and to the team of local organizing committee for
their invaluable work, İlker Unal and Yaşar Sertdemir on designing, the maintenance of conference
web site and finalizing conference program.
The conference is also unique opportunity to experience Turkish Culture and beauty of Cappadocia.

Guidelines for presenters
Oral Presentation Information
Each contributed oral presentation will be allocated 17 minutes for presentation, with an additional
three minutes for questions and session chairs will be instructed to stop any presentations that runover to allow time for the changeover of speakers. Please ensure that you plan your presentation to
fit within this schedule. The Chair will warn you when you have five minutes (of the 17) remaining,
again with two minutes (of the 17) remaining, and will hold up a STOP sign when you reach the end
of your allocated 17 minutes!
Please prepare your presentations using either PowerPoint or pdf formats, running under Windows.
We recommend that you save your PowerPoint presentation as a PowerPoint Show (.pps) file rather
than as a .ppt file, as this format is more transferable between platforms. Please bring your
presentation on a USB flash memory.
Please arrive at the designated lecture room for your session at least 10 minutes prior to the start of
the session, to allow time to check that your presentation is correctly uploaded. You should introduce
yourself to the session Chair when you arrive, and expect to stay in that room for the whole session,
not just for your presentation.
Remember that although all presentations should be given in English, not all delegates have English
as their first language, so try not to speak too fast!
When answering any questions at the end of your presentation, remember to speak to the whole
audience, not just to the person who asked the question.
Poster Presentation Information and Guidelines
Each presenter is provided with a 90 cm wide by 120 cm height laminated poster board and will
be arranged in PORTRAIT format. Please prepare your poster to fit this size. The presentation must
cover the same material as the abstract submitted. Posters should be clear and easy to read. Font size
should be sufficiently large to allow people to read from one and half to two meters away. Avoid
overload - too much information seriously detracts from the overall impact. LESS IS BEST!
Posters will be assigned to a poster board number listed in our Conference Program Book (distributed
at conference site). Find your assigned poster board to display your poster. Posters must be displayed
prior to the scheduled Poster Session and must be taken away at the end of each group session.
Remember that the presenting author is expected to be present at the poster during the session in
which the poster is included. Remember to include the title, the names of the authors and their
affiliations at the top of your poster - you might also like to include a small photo of the presenting
author to help other delegates identify who they want to talk to!
Do not mail your poster to the conference site as there will not be anyone to accept your presentation
at this location.
Poster Discussion:
Discussions should be held in front of your posters. Poster should be self-explanatory so that you are
free to supplement and discuss any points of inquiry. The poster session provides a more intimate
forum for discussion than an oral presentation. This becomes difficult if you are obliged to devote most
of your time explaining your poster to a succession of visitors.

Gala Dinner (Turkish Night Show) will
take
place
on Thursday, 14th May 2015 from 19:30 - 00:00.
The Turkish Night Show highlights the dance traditions of various
regions of Turkey, complete with traditional costumes and of
course, exhilarating belly dancers. This lively performance is a
great way to enjoy traditional Turkish music, dancing and join in
the festivities during audience participation.
There are still tickets available for the Gala Dinner! You can buy
the tickets at registration desk on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday!
Tour to Goreme Open Air Museum will take place on
Wednesday, 13th May 2015.
The Tour takes you to Göreme open air museum, the most
famous tourist attraction in Cappadocia, Paşabağ, Devrent
valleys and panorama of Honey (Love) valley, famous local wine
factory (TURASAN), pottery houses and gallery of Turkish
Sultanite (or Zultanite).
There are tickets available for this tour! You can buy the tickets
at registration desk on Monday and Tuesday. The cost is 30 Euros including entrance fees to Goreme
Open Air Museum, guiding and transportation.
