The conveners were a group of public partners representing educators, municipalities, and economic developers. After a great deal of sharing, swearing, and comparing, three themes emerged. Two of the three major pain points related to workforce concerns. As manufacturers, we worry about where our next generation of employees will come from. We also worry about what they will be taught as they prepare for their future careers. This has spawned two committees: Manufacturing Rocks and Vo-Tech Curriculum Development. Manufacturing Rocks focuses on career awareness for students, parents and teachers. They offer bus tours of manufacturing sites to show that these careers are challenging, rewarding, and fulfilling. Vo-Tech Curriculum Development is a partnership between manufacturers and educators who have been working closely to identify critical occupations in manufacturing and the key skills that are required by those occupations. The final of the three major pain points for manufacturers spoke to a lack of networking and to supply chain concerns. In short, as a manufacturing community, we really don’t know each other. This leads to us looking beyond our regions, State borders, or even outside of the USA for best practices, products, and services that might be available locally. This concern led to the creation of the Networking and Local Supply Chain Committee, the host for NOCOM 2015. Collectively, these three committees make up the NoCo Manufacturing Partnership. The Partnership is an all-volunteer organization representing a loose affiliation of about 150 manufacturing companies, primarily in Northern Colorado. Together with our public partners and other liked-minded pro-manufacturing organizations, we seek to work together to help manufacturers and their communities thrive. Take the time to visit NOCOM 2015, or better yet, come as an exhibitor, and see what we’re all about. Regards, Paul A. Harter President/CEO Aqua-Hot Heating Systems, Inc.
