The Velveteen Rabbit Thursday, March 19, 2015 Play Permission Form The Velveteen Rabbit! This year’s middle school production is Always a highlight of the school year, the spring play provides many opportunities for students to be involved either on stage or behind the scenes. Guidelines: Considerations about the commitment. Being in the play is a commitment that will consume a considerable amount of time. If academics or family life will be adversely affected by that sacrifice of time, participation in the play should be avoided. Academic expectations remain the same for students who are in the play. Be on time. To make each rehearsal as productive as possible, complete cooperation from each cast member is essential. When not on stage, cast members sit at a table in the back of the auditorium doing schoolwork or something to improve their work in the play. Boys and girls may never be together backstage. Rehearsal schedule. All rehearsals are required except for cases of illness or family emergency. If a student must miss a rehearsal, the parent or student should send the director an email or note in advance of rehearsal time explaining the situation. Activities such as school sports, birthday parties or other purely recreational activities are not grounds to miss rehearsals. During the final two weeks of rehearsal, students should not miss for any reason. Carefully look over the attached rehearsal schedule (please keep a copy for your records). Those with definite conflicts or serious reservations should either discuss the situation with the director before the audition or may need to not audition this year. There are a few days in our rehearsal schedule that will be flexible because of the All-State Band schedule. Auditions. Auditions will be held on Monday, November 17, and consist of a short (one minute or less) memorized piece. The piece should be chosen from a set of poems here: http://tinyurl.com/osr4bee; an audition rubric is posted there as well. Please sign up for audition pieces here: http://tinyurl.com/pbek7a3 Keep in mind that students will not be auditioning for specific parts; parts are assigned according to the cast that can be created from the group of students who auditions this year. A student may leave the audition as soon as he or she have completed his/her audition. Required cast meeting. Students who are selected for the cast, must be at a required cast meeting from 3:20 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 20. An email will be sent home on November 20 to let parents of cast members know how they can help with the production. Cast expectations. Cast members should understand that being in the play is a special privilege that can be forfeited by failure to abide by play policies. Those in the cast are expected to maintain an excellent discipline record. Late Stay provided. Late Stay is provided free of charge for those waiting for rehearsal to start. Students not picked up when rehearsal is over will check into late stay and be charged the normal late stay fee. After 5:30, extended late stay charges will apply. Please refer any questions to the director, Mrs. Joanna Foster, at [email protected]. ******************************************************************************************************************** Having read through these policies with my child and having examined the proposed rehearsal schedule, I give him/her permission to audition and if selected, to be in the 2015 middle school play Please return this form to the middle school office by Monday morning, November 17.
