Quilt Overview
•
The Chloe Quilt features nine unique embroidery motif combinations artfully placed on a cleverly pieced
quilt top.
•
The embroidery blocks are designed using BERNINA Embroidery Software 6 with motifs from the Chloe
BERNINA Exclusive Embroidery Collection #1101.
•
Without editing software, print templates of all the designs used. Use the templates to layout the embroidery
designs on the fabric blocks. At the machine you will be able to skip the sewn cutting lines.
•
The quilt top piecing is divided into six sections plus two borders. See page 15 for a construction road map.
•
The 18” x 18” Centerpiece Block and the adjoining 10” x 10” Framed Block are embroidered prior to block
piecing. The remaining blocks are embroidered after the quilt top construction is complete.
•
Free-motion quilting with the BERNINA Stitch Regulator and a scalloped outer border complete the quilt.

Cut the Fabrics - Quilt Top
The quilt is divided into six sections for piecing,
block assembly and embroidery.
Before cutting fabrics for the quilt, spray all fabrics
with Best Press and press.
Tip: You may want to apply an extra coat of Best
Press to the Candice Pale Lilac 24” square and 14”
square to stabilize for embroidery.

Repeat for 4 sets. It is okay for
the ends to be uneven. The ends
will be trimmed later.

Begin by centering a strip set to
one side of the quilt top with the
inner border strip to the quilt
edge, right sides together.
•
Start ¼” in from the top edge of
Ivory/Blue
the quilt and stop ¼” from the
bottom edge. Repeat for the other 3 sides.
•
Press the seams toward the border.

border where the border seam ends out to the
edge of the fabric.
•

Scallop the Outside Border
•
When finished quilting, lay the quilt flat on a cutting
surface.
•
Scallop the edges by using the June Tailor Fancy
Frame Ruler. Begin at the corners of the quilt. Lay
the ruler so the
45º line is lined up
with the mitered
corner and the
outside edge of
the ruler is just in
from the raw edge
of the quilt. Draw
a line along the
outside edge of
the first 9” scallop.
•
Move the ruler and position it adjacent to the first
marking making sure that the 45º line is on the miter
and draw an adjoining
scallop.
•
Repeat for all 4 corners.
•
Measure from the end of
one corner scallop to the
beginning of the next corner scallop to determine
how many 9” scallops can
be placed.
•
Now draw in the remaining
scallops “fudging” as
necessary.
•
Cut the edge of the quilt in the scallop pattern following the drawn lines or using the edge of the ruler
with a rotary cuter.
Chloe
Sew the mitered corners on the drawn line to create the mitered corner. Trim fabric to 1/4" and
press seam open for a neater corner.
Next, embroider the remaining designs on the
pieced quilt top. See page 14.
