Dear CDS families and friends,
Thank you for joining us at this year’s Benefit Auction! This evening provides all of us a wonderful
opportunity to invest in the future of our children, teachers, staff and school. Throughout the years,
your generous donations at the annual benefit auctions have afforded Chesterfield Day School the
ability to provide much needed enhancements to the school such as a new science lab, additional
playground equipment, Smart Boards for the classrooms and a newly renovated gymnasium, just to
name a few. These improvements to the school, which enhance the education that our children
receive, would not have been possible through tuition fees alone.
Each year, the Chesterfield Day School Benefit Auction is a great success because of the many people
that help plan and coordinate the event. We are so very lucky to have wonderful parent volunteers
who dedicate their time and energies into ensuring that this auction is a success. While it is impossible
to list everyone individually, please know that we acknowledge each of you and applaud all your efforts.
We sincerely appreciate and thank the local business and outside supporters of Chesterfield Day School
who so generously donated to the auction tonight. In addition, we also would like to thank Theresa
Fleck and Mary Jo O’Connell. Without your support and leadership, the Benefit Auction would not be
possible. The school and children benefit greatly from the passion and commitment that the parents,
teachers and administrators have for Chesterfield Day School. This is seen year-round; the efforts put
forth for the annual auction are no exception.
We hope that you will enjoy the event and invite you to climb aboard the S.S. Benefit Auction as we set
sail on an unforgettable, fun-filled evening. We encourage everyone to bid enthusiastically and help
Chesterfield Day School embark on a bright and successful future!
Bon Voyage!

Auction Rules
Silent Auction
On arrival, guests should check in at the registration table to receive their bid number and table
assignment. To facilitate the process of auction payments, we strongly encourage that all attendees
establish Express Pay payment processing prior to or at registration.
Silent auction bidding will begin at 6:00 PM with tables closing on a staggered basis beginning at 8:00
PM and ending at 8:45 PM. The Best of CDS and Luxury Deck tables will close at 8:45 PM. If there
continues to be bidding on items at this time, they will be moved to the Live Auction for further
bidding.
Each bidder should legibly write his or her name, bid number and bid amount on the appropriate bid
form. Once a bid is entered, it may not be removed. Starting bids and minimum increases shown on
the bid forms must be honored. All items will have bid forms attached or positioned nearby.
Under no circumstances may these forms be removed from the items. Many items will have a “BUY
IT NOW” option. This allows a single bidder to obtain an item for a bid above value. Successful bids
will be certified by an auction committee member in the bank.
Live Auction
The Live Auction will begin at 9 PM and will continue until all items are sold. To enter a bid during
the live auction, raise your bid card toward the auctioneer. A bid is registered only when it is formally
recognized and called by the auctioneer.
The bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer as the successful final bidder will be the buyer. In the
event of a dispute between bidders, the auctioneer will have the sole and final discretion to
determine the successful bidder or re-offer and resell the item in dispute. With the word “SOLD”
from the auctioneer, the right to buy the article will pass to the successful bidder. A runner will come
to the table of the successful bidder and obtain a signature on the bid sheet.
If the auctioneer determines that the bidding does not reflect the value of the item offered, he or
she may reject all bids and withdraw the item from sale.
Payment and Receipt of Items
Payment in full is mandatory on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Guests who have elected Express Pay will
receive a copy of the Silent or Live Auction bid sheets at their tables and may claim their items at
the appropriate table. Volunteers at each booth will ask to see a copy of the valid bid sheet marked
“PAID” for each item before releasing it. Guests who have not elected Express Pay must pay for their
items with cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover. The bank will remain open
for 45 minutes after the completion of the Live Auction.
10
Terms and Conditions of Sale
Buyers must adhere to all conditions specified by the donors. All sales are final, and no refunds or
exchanges are possible. All articles are sold “AS IS”. Items have been donated to the auction with the
understanding that no exchanges or refunds are allowed, unless specifically agreed to and authorized
in advance.
Dates and times for services and items such as vacation homes and private dinners are to be
arranged for the mutual convenience of donors and buyers. Times and dates designated for use of
homes, restaurants, merchandise certificates, hotels and resorts are not subject to change by buyers.
All certificates and donations of restaurant or hotel services exclude taxes, gratuities and alcoholic
beverages unless otherwise indicated. Unless otherwise stated, certificates, lodging and trips must
be used within one year of the auction. Restaurant certificates may have shorter usage periods (or
sooner expiration dates).
All items must be removed from the auction premises at the close of the auction. Chesterfield Day
School cannot assume responsibility for items left at the venue. All items donated and not sold are
the property of Chesterfield Day School. Unsold items will not be refunded to the original donor.
Valuations
It is the Auction Committee’s intent to accurately describe all catalog items with the information
provided by the donors. The Committee and Chesterfield Day School are not responsible for the
correct description or authenticity of any item. The estimated values provided are not warranted by
the Committee for tax purposes or for general value. Payments for items purchased at the auction
are tax deductible only as allowed by law. The IRS Revenue Ruling 67-246 reminds buyers that no tax
deduction for auction purchase price is allowed except to the extent that the taxpayer can show that
payment exceeds the fair market value of an item received or services rendered. Further, the
admission ticket price is not tax deductible.

1999 Opus One
This unique 3-liter bottle from Napa Valley is a medium-bodied wine that offers aromas of cassis
cloves and roasted almonds against a creamy texture of soft tannins and round rich fruit. Long-lived
and concentrated, the wine shows flavors of plum cherry and black pepper against a silky finish. Vino!

Fund-a-Need
Focus on Specials and Continuing a Tradition of Educating the Whole Child
Each year, the CDS Fund-a-Need effort aims to enhance the overall educational experience for our students. For
example, last year, we raised over $30,000 to enhance the instruction of science throughout the school. In 2010-2011
and 2009-2010, the school was able to purchase important technology resources. This year our efforts will benefit the
CDS Specials Program. Parents will be able to make a donation to the Fund-a-Need effort during the Live Auction program
the night of March 9, 2013.
The CDS Specials Program is absolutely critical in our efforts to educate the “whole child”. Exposure to these classrooms
and teachers immerses children in the world of creativity and expression through art and music class, introduces students to the importance of learning foreign languages and experiencing other cultures through our Spanish program,
provides critical social and physical growth opportunities in our physical education program, and sharpens critical
thinking skills through our wonderful library. The power of a CDS education is very much tied to the experiences that our
children have in the “specials” classes.
Donations to this year’s Fund-a-Need will allow “Specials” teachers to add an item, series of items, or activity to their
program which will significantly increase the effectiveness of their curriculum. These items have been identified by each
individual teacher as pieces that would greatly affect the ability to provide a stellar education to CDS students.
